    INSANE pump! 2600L/H 7m head and its cheap

    i found this pump called DC50-2470 here is the ebay link

    it is a chinese make. but a pump is a pump, all of them are long life. this one is aparently <35db sound. i was wondering, what would happen if i where to use this in my water cooling loop. would the pressure be too high? could the connections pop out or brake due to high water speed and pressure? thanks guys.

    That pump has less head pressure than a D5 (which is weaker than DDC 3.2 or higher). In short, it's probably about as good as an Eheim which most ppl stopped using a while ago.

    how can you tell it has less head pressure? its gor 7m head which is pretty damn high. my ek dcp 4.0 is 4m head and it does good job at the moment.

    Whoops..my bad, I confused meter with feet. 7M head is about the same as the DDC-2 (MCP35X ?) which isn't bad. The problem with this pump is, it needs 24V to hit those #'s whereas the DDC's only need 12v to do it meaning much less heat dumped into the water.

    i suppose, but this very cheap £28 what im worried about is the connections from block > compression fitting > tube might brake due to high water speed and pressure. or do you think the connection could withstand it?

    Thats not the only problem. Most of that heat will most likely be dumped into the water loop. 4times the heatdump for the same performance as the DDC.... no ty!

    hmm i sueppose it is high power rating therefore it will heat up. but after having 1x 360rad and 1x 560 rad, i should be fine since the water will be pumped insanely fast so i can get rid of the heat fast.

    FYI,
    Using a 360 only rad, 85 watts is very significant. 85 watts with average fans is going to cost you about a 2 degree rise in water temperature.



    2 degrees is about all I could measure between very low .5GPM flow rates to 2+ GPM flow rates on some of my recent testing:


    Going really oversized in the radiator area does help things, but pump heat should not be ignored. Even if the heat seems minor, the gains from flow rate are similarly minor in scale resulting in diminishing returns very quickly.

    I would generally dismiss considering any pump that dumps more than about 50 watts for your average user. On an average triple rad type loop, you'll actually go downhill with much more than about triple DDCs (60 watts).

    One thing to remember is with gigantic (zero head) flows you will hit cut off head (7m in this case) a LOT sooner. What this equates to is lower flow than more proven pumps. This is why circulation rated (aquarium) pumps/power heads are a poor choice for PC systems. There is simply too much restriction for their large flows.

    This pump has a large enough flow that even a relatively low restriction loop would make the pump "feel" like it was attached with the equivalent of airline tubing!

    Even worse at such flows the heat dump into the water.

    Certainly it's cheap enough to buy and play with.

    hmm intresting. i could get the 2 lower models of the fan which is 60w but 4.5m head and 2300L/h the reason why im wanting these is because they are cheap. powerfull and quiet <35db is whats its rated at.

    true, but most of my w/c setup has almost 0 restriction especially the rad, xspc rs360 and it is pretty cheap. £28 is nothing compared to what i payed for the ek dcp 4.0

    Besides the needs of DC 12V to DC 24V power converter, the nozzle of this pump is not compatible with tubings typically used in H20 cooled computers.

    It's 22mm OD nozzle, is there any reducer for this size?

    Haha the only way you're going to be close to zero restriction with that rated flow is if everything has 1" NPT fittings. Even then I'd be willing to bet a 2 psig head pressure.

    skineelabs tested the rs360 and he said its close to no restriction. im usin 1/2" tubing

    Right but within a certain flow range. Increase the flow sufficiently and pressure will increase. This is precisely why high powered pumps won't work. If one managed to get this kind of flow through a PC loop the pressure would be so high it would breach the seals in the blocks, for example. Fortunately this will not happen with (non) positive displacement pumps.

    Water moving quicker through a radiator does not mean it loses heat faster. By your logic, couldn't I say that water moving through a block faster means it has less time to pick up heat?

    The loop equalises anyway.

    Turbulence may have an added effect, but flow rate increases generally do little for thermal transfer in the radiator, and do more for old style waterblocks like the Swiftech Storm or even EK V1.

    What I'm saying is that flow rate tends to benefits blocks more than radiators.

    Blocks these days are very flow rate resilient, though, so having higher flow when you're above 1~1.5 likely doesn't translate to great temperature change.

    Also "car" pump .. makes me doubt for it to be quiet one. No-one might care about pump noise under bonnet, where there is wall with sound insulation to passenger area of car, but in LC application?

    The first one is extremely loud and would probably explode water cooling components with all the pressure, but would be interesting to try....

    The second one is actually pretty quiet and have thought about using one as I have a few but never got around to it.

    tiborrr: imho you'll get same performance with dual D5 or DDCs but with less noise and power usage. Iwaki seems to me like Hummer SUV. Very powerful but doesn't make sense to choose it.

    Yeah, I know, but how does the D5 respond to chilled liquid? I have used MD-20 in the past for a chiller build [ http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=227203 ] and it's still working flawlessly.
