I use the same stuff Dinos. Pop it into the microwave for 20 seconds and it becomes very pliable and easy to get into just about anyplace. Plus it forms a good seal around the socket.

Lately I have been taking off the hold downs, installing the CPU into the socket and then using black electrical tape over the edge of the CPU and then down the side of the socket all around the 4 sides.

Screw back on the CPU hold downs then I put eraser as I usually do.

When I mount the Evap or LN2 pot I use the gasket and I spread a thin layer of grease around that to help for a better seal.

Sometimes I see the great overclockers using nothing but vasalin at comps were speed in prep is useful. But it does make a mess. I am not sure if they do that at home simply because clean up is such a pain. But at comps its different.

I have only used conformal coating a few times, but I mainly do not as it can viod your warrenty when cleaning up as I found out LOL, what a mistake.

Conformal alone if applied with several coats on both sides of the board is all that is really needed. Some eraser around the socket to seal it in and give a foundation for mounting the CPU also.

From my experiance, using fans keeps air moving accross the platform so frost build up is slown down, it does not prevent it tho. It also helps spread the cold around to cool other parts.

But much of this depnds on where you live and the conditions you work in. You might need to use more extreme methods of prepping for extreme cold sessions.
