Swiftech to release heatsinks for GeForce GTX560-TI

*sigh* ... let's not derail this thread based on RoscoP's comments about the conspiracy nonsense. It's laughable to say that Swiftech is trying to milk more money out of this whole process, when they are the primary ones who have provided universal GPU blocks for a long time now - the purpose being to give us a block that is not obsolete with every GPU upgrade.


I would like to know what the point was about filing the block/heatsinks, as I'm interested in getting one of these setups.

Modding the stock plate: As far as I can recall, (was also true for the 480's) the stock BP has standoffs that interfere with the 80 BP. If you don't file'em, you can't make contact with the GPU. It's an easy mod since the BP is AL, easy to grind down with a dremel.

I haven't tested this mod TBH, so I have no reference, but in theory, because of our VR hard TIM design, our HSF should be able to provide better cooling to the VR's than stock.

Gabe, the 580 and 570 cards became available around early December. That means you're going to be over 4 months late in bringing a heatsink to customers to use their MCW80 with their 570 / 580. By now people are enjoying their EK or Koolance full cover blocks on their new GPUs.

A lot of enthusiasts upgrade as soon as new parts are available, specifically GPUs. You would have sold more of these "unisink" heatsinks for use with the MCW80 if you would release them shortly after the time the cards are available... not over 4 months later.

Gabe, the reason I am calling you out is because I went to your support forums at Swiftech's website for an easy question and got zero help or response. I visited your support forum to ask if the there will be a kit released allowing you to use the MCW80 with the 570 / 580. I got no response on your forum and no response from Michelle over the phone.

I do use and enjoy your products but I'm convinced that you give no support on your products, via your "support" forum or via phone.

I actually own a GTX 480. I used an MCW80 on it with the Stock VRM/PWM/RAM heatsink and did not have to file anything.




This setup worked perfect for me for ~6 months. I used a temperature probe to monitor a couple places around the power circuitry to see if there was a noticeable difference in temperatures when comparing:

1. Stock Cooler w/ Auto Fan
2. Stock Cooler w/ MSI Afterburner Fan Profile
3. MCW80 w/ Fan set to 30% in MSI Afterburner
4. All of the above w/ Stock Clocks and 850/2000 OC

From my measurements, there was at most a ~2-3C increase in temperature in that area when comparing item #1 @ Stock Clocks (Vanilla) and item #3 @ OC.

I know that a GTX 480 Stock VRM/PWM/RAM heatsink does not need to be filed at all to fit the MCW80. The GTX 580 does not either.

Both the GTX 470 and GTX 570 need to be filed by removing the Stock VRM/PWM/RAM heatsink and filing the bosses that are situated closest to the GPU's IHS.

I know because I filed 3 of the 4 on RoscoP's GTX 570 VRM/PWM/RAM heatsink myself. Used a dremel with a cut-off wheel and it took about 15 minutes.

It's another option and ya never want to reduce your options. If people want it they will buy if not they won't, no harm done.

FWIW, I can vouch for RoscoP that he uses Swiftech products:

1. MCR-320-QP
2. MCR-220-QP w/ built in Reservoir
3. 2x MCW80's
4. Apogee XT
5. MCP-655
6. Swiftech Filport

I know because when I recently stopped using liquid cooling, RoscoP bought all of it. The MCR-320, Apogee XT, and MCW80.

I think that RoscoP is just wondering how it is possible for you to prototype a Unisink for a GTX 560 Ti before the GTX 570; you yourself stated that the GTX 570 was a more popular graphics card.

It is true that the GTX 570 has been out for ~4 months.

Also, today we have at our disposal:

1. Gigahertz Processors
2. Fiber Internet
3. Decision Support Systems
4. AUTOCAD
5. Various other planning software packages

So, who's marketing decision was it to:

1. Give the GTX 560 Ti priority over the GTX 570/580 when designing a Unisink?
2. Do nothing for the GTX 570/580 for ~4 months?

RoscoP and myself both go to school fulltime, and RoscoP works part time.

I have a family that includes a wife who is permanently disabled with Multiple Sclerosis, and a 15 year old son. I am the "Head of Household" for just about every decision in our family.

Can you see how this is appalling for RoscoP and myself when it is not our job to market for Swiftech? We do not have the tools you have to handle this task; yet, with our schedules we have been able to do a lot of testing in our "labs" here at home, in our spare time.

I think that about sums it up.

EDIT: I still like your products, I have always enjoyed them, and I am not making a personal jab at you, Gabe. I just wanted to clarify how I feel.

right... I remember now, it's the 470/570 that needs modding, not the 480/580.

late release: I've explained in other posts (and expressed sincere apologies) practical reasons why heatsinks were delayed.

maybe gage did not want to make a unisink for the 570 or 580. it is his right to make that decision. not to mention i just bought my 560 and i am sure there are people out there still buying 570s and 580s. it is not like all the cards are sold at once when they are released.

honestly who gives a damn when he decides to make a product it is his call. like said above its not like you have to go water. it comes with a heatsink and fan and you can use it that way. nobody is forcing you to buy the unisink.

Okay ... maybe I can be clearer here. This thread is about the 560i heatsink. It's not about Swiftech's marketing decisions. Both RoscoP and cesthree have made their points. No one has questioned the technical validity of the info RoscoP or cesthree have presented, so there is no need to vouch for anyone. If anyone, including RoscoP or cesthree has further questions on what I'm trying to say here - please send my a PM. Let's let the thread get back on topic.

I'm sorry shazza, but.. this is all that should be said about that.. There is no reason to post in a 560 Ti thread that he is releasing 570/580 block, as it has it's own post. and you weren't the only one emailing and hoping for a unisink for these cards. he has no obligation to you to tell you if he is or is not going to come out with a product and I think one waterblock for a card already is pretty good hydrocopper!


on topic, stop looking at the fan! every single swiftech unisink comes with a mount for a fan, since the dawn of ti...er swiftech uni's at least.
it's there because not everyone watercools!! you can put a universal air cooler on the gpu core, and the heatsink if you want!!!

u can get rad screws for swiftech and i would bet that they would work, or cut the screws so they are the length to have them only cover the bottom dog ear.

Yes any 80 will work. You just have to use the right screws.

I've got Swiftech all over my builds now and have had many of them in the past.

Question now is: I have the eVGA SC GTX 560Ti 1GB which I THOUGHT was reference (now not sure). Regardless I am assuming, Gabe, that these Unisinks in production are for the Reference PCBs ONLY no?

How DO you tell if you have a reference Board or not?
