Acer changes logo will it help its image, i dont think so... :P

Over in Acer HQ, it's out with the old and in with the new. Having bid ciao to former CEO Gianfranco Lanci, the Taiwanese company is now slapping a fresh coat of paint and a softer typeface upon its corporate identity. The new Acer green is lighter and brighter and the more rounded new shape looks a lot safer for kids to play around with, should the occasion ever arise.

ok this is just too much Acer cant become a rival for Apple in any world. I know about their Timeline range and while they are very good in both hardware and battery life they dont have an image that can be compared with Apple ever.

Next MSi will start thinking it is the new apple.

Whenever I hear "Acer" I think "Cheap, Low Quality"

Apple's image is in a different league.

i have an acer monitor from 4 years ago
IPS 1920x1200 27", paid 750$ and it still has zero dead pixels, great color and viewing angles. the only drawback might be its not as fast as current, but ive never been bothered by a few ms difference. a 24" of the same quality is still going for nearly 500$ today, so i guess it was a great investment.

how many companies even make their own LCD panels anyway?

I would still rather have an Acer though..... I have worked with tons of consumer level pre built computers and Acer IMO is if anything better than HP. At least with Acer you get what you pay for. can hardly say the same about HP....

i tend to stay away from consumer laptops in general...

My old HP Probook is 4 years old by now and still going strong (gave it to a friend), the new E6410 just finished its first year, it had no issues at all and there are no signs of cracks or other mechanical damage (i carry it almost daily to the university without a sleeve in my messenger bag)

business notebooks last at least 3 times longer than their consumer parts, i think that the 20-30% premium is worth it and i'm not going to buy an acer / stick with Dell, Lenovo or HP until they enter this market

    I agree.

Only Apple can get away with selling £400 PC World Specials for £799.

Only Apple can get away with selling a LG LCD, limit it's connectivity options and then increase it's price by 50%

Only Apple can get away with selling a pad which lacks innovation compared to the competition, yet is also priced £100-150 more than the competition?

Nobody, but Apple can get away with those tactics in the world of IT and Technology.

Although I bet Acer, HP and even Dell would want to try, however Acer are the £400 PC World Specials, which sell for £400 and that is what they will always ever be... (no amount of logo changes will ever change that)

apple can only do that since they are a marketing firm and not a tech company.

not to be an apple fanboy (I'm not, haven't owned anything apple except that copy of iTunes I don't use), but considering that many things apple releases have quite a bit of money/R&D put into things like their cases and enclosures, and, in the case of their phones and ipads, their displays and interfaces, it's not really a wonder their tech costs what it does. other than missing potential heat issues in some of their items, they really do push the boundaries of consumer tech. Maybe more than is necessary. obviously that's why they back it up with the marketing department, to convince the average joe that the apple way is better because of 'x'.

at the heart of it, they're like the bently of the computer world. I know I can get (most) BMWs and Mercs way cheaper and get better performance out of them, but certain bits are polished that bit extra that makes a bently what it is over a BMW or a Merc. obviously not in all cases, i realize that, but seeing what kind of absurd machining went into some of their laptops for the sake of making most of the case a heatsink, it's not a wonder they charge what they do.

(quick, someone make a plastic-interior/cadillac joke)

I bought an 11.6" netbook from them with the athlon II K625 cpu X2 1.5ghz with the HD4225. the build quality on it seems top notch to me. for a netbook it was the best cpu one could get at the time. of course it was expensive, but if you want quality then you have to pay for it.

i like lenovo over asus, they cost the same and they have easy access to heatsinks for the cpu/chipset, gpu and ram/hdd. now u cannot get a gaming lenovo (or maybe u can but not for cheap like an asus) but for general use they are nice.

I agree on the acer, but when i hear apple, i hear over priced .

I agree on the IBM, they make some of the BEST laptops, we use them at work because of their security.

Competitors Android tablets are going for as much if not more then Apple's. Same goes for other companies laptops that are made to be as thin yet structurally sound (all aluminum construction) as the Macbooks.

Complain about their OS or software restrictions all you want, but the hardware and price for their Phone/Tablet/Notebook market is right there with competitors products of similar quality.

Hardware loyalty makes for invalid opinions.

They don't. You can still find refrubed Thinkpads with C2Ds for under $500 out there. Lenovo now does the Thinkpad series. TheirT410/510s are to die for. There is still a ton of IBM engineering in a Thinkpad.

There is no comparison between a Thinkpad/Probook and any consumer level laptop.

Agree with you completely. Don't like Apple, don't buy there stuff.

But calling the iPad "expensive" compared to the competition is just not correct as I see it. The Xoom, Galaxy Tab and other tablets from big name companies are all in the same price range. Only the small brands are going cheaper, but then you also get very limited software/hardware, Archos I'm looking at you...

Lenovo systems are decent but for standard computer Dell wins every day of th week IMO... for myself however I will not use a computer for an extended period of time that cannot play SC2 close to maxed which is one thing I love int he Asus laptops. most of them come with dedicated GPU's for fairly cheap.

however the similarly priced Android unit can run flash which make them infinitely more useful...

however i dunno how accurate that is considering a Moterolla Xoom is cheaper than an Ipad 2 and is faster...
