I don't care about Turbo 2.0. If I can throw a BD into my existing Asus board and overclock it, that works for me. The new features don't do anything for me anyhow.

As quoted by LowRun......"So, we are one week past AMD's worst case scenario for BD's availability but they don't feel like communicating about the delay, I suppose AMD must be removed from the reliable sources list for AMD's products launch dates"

Anyway, Ill see how many features my Bulldozer will loose on ASUS Formula IV, then Ill consider if an AM3+ MB upgrade is needed.
It's good to have JF with us, for sure, but he's not talking as AMD official on XS, see his sig.
At start, we had AM3 roadmap, next AM3+ one, JF said AM3+ only.
Then, partners said AM3 compatible with some mobos, JF said AM3+ support only.
I find that's not really clear ... If the BD first gen fit into AM3 socket, what does the missing pin ?
Backward compatibility is always a good point from consumer's angle.
Look at LGA 1156 to 1155, that was ugly from Intel.

Uhm,havent you said that "theres no magic pixie dust that could enable working bulldozer in AM3 boards" ?

Btw im happy non turbo enabled 1055T in an old Am2+ board user

Also JF it would be great if you could answer a question, is 990FX+ SB950 combo are going to be new/improved (on a hardware level, masks) chips ?
This way you wont say us nothing yet will say us a lot .
Some people speculate its going to be exactly the same with new name stamped on it and IOMMU enabled.

I dont get what is this arguing over.

Its pretty clear, there is no thing that gets BD work on am3 spec mobo, ofc mobo manufacturer can make mobo that is over the spec of am3.

Result is that some am3 may support BD, most wont. If they do, its not supported by AMD.

Olivon: AMD says BD is only supported in AM3+ motherboards, and Asus find a way to make them work in SOME AM3. There's very little AMD can do about that.
What's so hard to understand? It's not a good idea to call BD an AM3 CPU since it will only work in like what? <5% of all board models?

Move your speculations somewhere else, please.

Past months, almost everybody believed that would be impossible and BD processor would be AM3+ only.
    That's the point.
Why some divergences between AMD and its partners ?
AM3 backward compatibilty is really a good point and why AMD don't communicate about that ?

It's approx. april and the cpu is gonna to be announced on June so why AMD it's not clear about that ?
I obviously can't speak for Asus, right? I can only say what I know. People keep coming back to me to ask me how this can be and all I can tell you is what I know from the AMD side. You need to be asking Asus that question.

Yeah, if I could restate that I would. The reality is there is no magic pixie dust that will allow AMD to support BD in anything other than AM3+. That would have been more accurate.

As for the other stuff, I am not a desktop guy so I don't know.
While I work for AMD, my posts are my own opinions.

The way I figure, if they aren't gonna increase the amount of mem chan's on the cpu, then why even bother with a socket update at this point?
That and looking at the actual age of the 890fx, why would you want to fork down another $200-300 for a similar board?
These boards are only a year old..., if that.

The only potential differences I can see happening with the 990fx boards, is that they would use the 4 channel usb3 controllers instead of the old 2 channel ones.
It's pin compatible, just needs a firmware update.

I really don't believe msi would make a joke like that, it would be in bad taste.
    I believe it's official.
I see that turbo core v2.0 is verified to work on the am3 boards from the news that msi has put up.
I don't think there's a thing missing here now, tech wise.
(I, I, I lol, oui I try to mix it up but sometimes...)

Anyways, I have not seen any 990fx boards at all yet.
When is the next electronics trade show?
We should be seeing top of the line prototype boards at these shows...

I've also seen 0 news on the chipsets...
What are they supposed to add to the table?

We could possibly see these new sockets only on the low end and mid range boards ^^.
Asus has already put out 2 rev's of there top tier board, the formula and extreme.
Gigabyte has updated there top tier boards with new rev's of the same model.
Usually this wouldn't matter, but the economy isn't what it used to be either.

Look at DFI, they used to put out so many models of essentially the same board and look what happened to them .

    From amd's standpoint.
If they did put out a chip that really had no functional difference, it would cost them time and money, putting intel at a further advantage.
    Haste makes waste.

    Edit:
This thread probably has this info already but here you go, this was just posted on guru3d:

So the only thing those MSI boards need is a bios flash? No need for new revisions with a new socket? Because the 890GXM is listed there and that would mean I don't need to buy a new board :O

    That's right, you need the A7642AMS.1A0 http://event.msi.com/mb/am3+/

MSI seems very generous, it's 14 boards in that list so far, even some budget models.

What I don't understand is this (besides the language skills):
The new generation AMD AM3+ multi-core processors that are highly expected by market launch from the beginning of this month.

I thought the CPU's would show up in June?

I just want to know how much more optimized the AM3+ boards are hardware-wise so that buying an 800-series board isn't as much of an option. Of course, the 990 chipset will be better for the Bulldozer chips, but exactly how much is what's the deciding point for me.

I guess there's no reason to buy an 800 board now, unless:

1 - Your current one just broke down.

2 - You're one of those who thinks that changing board now and CPU later is a good idea, not realizing that you're doing it just because you can't resist buying something new even though it will give you next to nothing in new features until BD shows up. You simply can't resist the itch.
You probably live in la la land, totally missing the fact that you're buying a board without knowing how well it works with BD. Waiting a month simply can't hurt..

3 - The 900 boards aren't worth the wait, the differences are too small.

4 - The 900 boards are delayed beyond BD launch.

5 - The 900 boards are canceled (I highly doubt that).

Thanks for the link, I was actually in no rush and my mind is actually set in getting a 9xx board first then a BD proc later, but MSI's press release is kinda messing up that plan since I expected new revisions for BD and not a simple bios flash... will have to wait and see.

Choice, decisions, options! I don't know whether to get a BD chip and AM3+ board for optimal performance or save a few bucks and get a BD chip and existing AM3 mobo.

Been said several times now. OFFICIALLY AM3+ chips do not work in AM3 boards.

Apparently some board makers are fabbing BIOS updates to allow some support for AM3+ CPUs in some of their AM3 boards, but again this is not an officially supported setup by AMD.

And the question is "Do they fit?". I've read many a time about the bios update, but that could go hand in hand with a new revision of a board. Asus claims that current boards will take AM3+ chips in an AM3 socket with no explanation. Bios or not, I still don't believe it.
