i was looking around the MDPC cases and one popped out with an intersting idea

they used shrink that was able to wrap around the connector aswell, so its a seamless link between connector and sleeving by the heatrsink

hope they dont mind me linking too it

That's not the most secure way to do it, tends to slip off. But should work this is all personal choices.

In that build he sleeved all cables as one with large not 3-4 with sata.

is that just 1 sleeve covering all of the pcie cables or has it got separate sleeving under it ?

Another thing I find funny is AMD/Intel would snipe any of our Moms on a grocery run if it meant good quarterly results, and you are forever whining about what feser did?

Just the one if you read earlier in the thread Martin mentioned using MDPC X sata sleeving and the big heatshrink to do 6pin pcie cables in this way.

Can you guys, especially Martin S and Xien 16 show how far back from the pin you cut the sleeve? And also how far up the pin the heatshrink goes?

    Thanks.

Just put the cable into the plug, push the sleeve as near to the plug as it is possible, remove the cable + sleeve out of the plug (without getting out of place) and you have the position

    Perfect
I only did this on a few cables.
Now I have one finished model and just hold the new cable beside it (did ~200 pins / 100 cables with this model)

And I just noticed something - @ guilleguillaume:
Do you have the permission from Nils to show his pictures?

I've never writen that the pictures are mine, it's just obvious that the screen pic comes from MPDC-X and I just posted here what I saw new in his main page. Don't see the problem in posting his pics from his page when I'm not saying that they're are mine. It have the MPDC-X label so don't know what's wrong with doing it, just talking about his new color with the only pic we have on the internet.

If Nils doesn't like it will be so easy to ask me not to do that but right now he didn't tell anything about that so don't know what's wrong with it and you telling me that

    Hello guys,

As I see, you do an excellent sleeving , i would like to ask some things.

I recently bought a Seasonic X-750W, i want to shorten the cables but... should I cut and weld the wire or should I cut the wire and put the crimping conectors again and set the sleeve?

I donīt have the crimping tool to do it... is there another way to crimp the conector?

    Greetings.

You should re crimp everything. If you cut and resolder there is going to be a bulge in the sleeving which won't look all that good. It would be a good idea to purchase a crimper. The one available @ MDPC is excellent, albeit kind of expensive.

i just started messing around with my wires and im making them all shorter too

im not too worried about not having a proper crimp tool, a little bit of solder should hold quite well. and the long ends of the pin that grab onto the wires shrink i just clip shorter and bend them over instead

i was looking around for a proper crimp tool, and i might fork out the 25$ from frozencpu or performance-pcs when i buy some other things.

I have another question for Xien16 or Martin S

What do you do to the double wired cables on the 24pin and pci-e cables? I tried with my last psu but because the double wire is too bulky when you heatshrink it, it just wont fit in the connector :/

I allways get myself Silverstone Strider PSUs (watch out - some low power versions are non 100% modular Striders)
There you only have one of these double cables.

One thing you could do is turning it around so the double pin is on the PSU side.
Or you can just leave the thin one of this cable away (if you do your own cables)

And what I do is scratching away the circuit (on the board in the PSU) that goes to the thin one on the PSU side and connecting it directly in the PSU with an orange cable.
On this way you can do a 100% 1:1 cable and all of the 24 pins are there (normally one pin has to be left away on the MB-Side)

You can get them nearly everywhere
Most cheap ones use the "HD44780" chip - just search for it on ebay

same as any 3 pin, take the sleeving off, put the tool in and push the cable forward, then give it a straight pull.. shouldnt be that hard.. i find 24 pins to be more of a challenge..

    Not at all
This is a 2.54mm housing and no 4.2mm mini fit so there is no use for "the" tool and you can't push it in from the front (you can but that will destroy the plug)

First you have to peel off the shrink on the plug.
After that you can see some sort of brackets - lift them a little bit with a thin screw driver or a scalpel (watch out, these break if you lift them too much)
And then pull on the cable - but only on the one you are working on (the other 8 are still fixed in the plug)
