    New v7 client is almost ready

    Heads up for those of you who do not follow FAH news:

    http://folding.typepad.com/news/2011...t-release.html

    I am a tester and it is looking very good. We should think about making a drive for new users once this new client is available as it is very easy to install (just like a normal app) and easy to configure all FAHClients from a single GUI (FAHControl). Looking forward to the release as Open Beta

    Most important question: whats the status of core 16, which only will be released when v7 is out? Any hints about performance? Will Ati users now really be able to join the fun?

    Just got word that a replacement for my burned GTX560 is on it's way but I've also gotten impatient and ordered an additional GTX570. I'm seriously hoping that wasn't a wrong decision. Russ_64, you got any word on how long it'll take until core 16 hits/could you snoop around a bit? If Ati is strong then I could ebay the 560 replacement as new, send the 570 back and get something like two 6970s. I just don't know... -_-;;

    Edit: I know you said you don't fold on Ati, but I'm still hoping for some hints... sorry, I hope that's not bothering you.

    I can't tell from that post - will GPU folding still be windows only?

    What I remember is that from v7 on there should be native Linux GPU client, but not immediately. They still focus on Windows though.

    The news client looks reeeally good! Installed it right away and it started to crunch asap. With this new client we _should_ be able to start a run for new members! Installing now is made so easy with a complete step-by-step guide directly from Stanford. That client really looks amazing!

    Edit: Two things come to mind:
    1. Someone with an Ati GPU hurry and get that client running to see if they already rolled out core 16 (running nv I got 15 at the start)
    1. angra, could you try to get this thing running on one box to see if gpu support works for Linux? There's no info on the site (maybe I'm just blind)

    One new thing to note, after finishing one wu and starting to upload it the GPU client directly gets a new unit to work on without wasting time on waiting for the upload!

    It's kinda like BOINC now, with slots etc. No need for multiple clients anymore.

    It looks so cool,

    Angra, check Fah client control/configure, is either localhost or 127.0.0.1 set as address? In your log the port looks right but not the address...

    p2501: where would I see that? I am using the command line client. The only configure that I see is the config.xml file. All that has is:

    Code:
    <config>
      <!-- Configuration file created by FAHClient on 29/Mar/2011-12:11:14 -->
      <user value='Angra'/>
      <team value='36362'/>
      <passkey value='REDACTED'/>
      <smp value='true'/>
      <gpu value='true'/>
    </config>

    Can anybody give a comparison between this new Stanford software and FAH GPU Tracker V2? Can you set smp -7 or -10 for example? Does it show good PPD calculations?

    Are they still going to be releasing stand-alone clients if it turns out I like Tracker better? Almost seems like a copy of tracker lol

    That may be a stupid question, but you don't by any chance have two fahclient processes or anything else tied to that port running? Could you check that first?!

    Never used fahtracker.

    There's a field where you can add all the extra args you'd ever want to any running 'slot' (i.e. client).

    You can choose to display the stats of all major stat sites.

    That I don't know, but the 6.41 still isn't deprecated, so you will be able to use it for a while...

    I tried on a freshly booted node. Not a stupid question, but it was not the issue.

    There should by a init script flying around in init.d if I get it right, did you start the client directly or via the script?

    Alright - that fixed it. I did not realize it installed an autostarting client.

    Now, it runs, doesn't quite, but also does not know how to connect via my proxy. Do you know the proper config.xml tag for proxy configuration? I could not find it on the documentation wiki.

    I don't now and after skimming it I didn't find anything either. But I asked in Fahforums, let's see if someone answers.
    (btw, that's also where the init.d idea came from )

    Sadly for now nothing else will happen except for the fact that now there is almost no gap between two work units, it's folding almost constantly because it already starts downloading a new unit when the old one reached 99%.

    BUT if you setup the new client today you might still be surprised this week. The new core _could_ also be out this week.

    Edit: Angra, it seems the current client just has no proxy support yet which is why there is no info on that topic. The next minor version will have it.
