The World's Fastest Graphics Card...Done Right

At AMD we pride ourselves on both the excellence of our products, and in the integrity of our messaging. Let me give you a perfect example. Two weeks ago we launched our flagship GPU, the AMD Radeon™ HD 6990. We had designed it to be a game-changer and we hit the bull’s eye. The result: The AMD Radeon™ HD 6990 achieved the highest default single graphics card score of X3303 using the industry standard 3DMark11 benchmark. And when we launched it, we issued a press release in which we proudly called it the “World’s Fastest Graphics Card” and fully disclosed the basis upon which we made that claim.

Yesterday our competitor also issued a press release, announcing the launch of what they claim to be the “World’s Fastest Graphics Card”– the Nvidia GTX 590. We combed through their announcement to understand how it was that such a claim could be made and why there was no substantiation based on industry-standard benchmarks, similar to what AMD did with industry benchmark 3DMark 11, the latest DirectX® 11 benchmark from FutureMark.

So now I issue a challenge to our competitor: prove it, don’t just say it. Show us the substantiation. Because as it stands today, leading reviewers agree with us here, here, here, and here that the AMD Radeon HD 6990 sits on the top as the world’s fastest graphics card.

Ugh, this dual GPU, single PCB crap is just full of hardware compromises. They want to have a d*ck waving contest, do it with a single GPU.

Funny to see them call out the BS marketing though.

    Amen!!!!!!

And true, but marketing is always going for the more money than brains club that needs the latest only to rarely even take it out of the box. Marketing itself is BS but I'm preaching to the choir.

Maybe if they spent anytime at all on their drivers they would have something to really show. What is it like a year+ and still a cursor bug? I loved ATI but now yeash! Get the software up to par with the hardware guys then you'd have something to prove. Dual GPU's I still don't think is something to brag about to me it's like adding 2 extra cores to compete with the competitions midrange chips. I am glad however they are still sticking with eyefinity I think thats great.

God I hope someone at nVidia leaks that the claim is based on their performance in CUDA computing.

In all seriousness though, either way it's all just marketing. We know both sides can and do specifically tweak drivers and even hardware for certain benchmarks, and they always have. Claiming you're the best at a single benchmark is silly for that reason alone. But AMD does have a fair point, if nVidia is going to SAY they have the fastest card, they might as well at least offer a benchmark of some kind as a basis.

Another thing I find funny is AMD/Intel would snipe any of our Moms on a grocery run if it meant good quarterly results, and you are forever whining about what feser did?

    In before/after fanboi's...

Reality here: Nvidia (I believe it was Asus) that said it was the single fastest card, yet it was not in all cases. (yes you can pick that statement apart, don't really care)
However its been pretty clear by design that the 590 is a quieter card and that's what they were going for, but the 6990 was the fastest overall.

    End of discussion really.

This thread reminds me of the ol' saying " if the shoe was on the other foot"
If it was reversed and Nvidia was louder and faster the replies would be the exact opposite.

Problem is the 590 blows up for no good reason while the 6990 keeps going. If you are going to complain about noise at this level maybe you have no reason to buy a product like this. I mean if you are willing to pay 700$ for a graphics card maybe you can find another 100 for a waterblock.

Amd has the fastest noisiest most power hungry card while nvidia only has fastest so I dunno why they are getting their panties in a bunch still undisputed in 2.

YOu know this is how Nvidia have advertise GTX4xx- GTX5xx since some times in their public release ? ( DX11 cards done right ) it was a joke lanced to Nvidia and their own marketing lol ....

Here some word who should make laugh a lot of peoples, specially reviewers of the 590: """ Like all NVIDIA "DX11 Done Right" GPUs, the GTX 590 delivers the world's fastest performance for DX11 games(i). And with NVIDIA SLI® technology, the industry's most scalable multi-GPU platform, gamers can increase their PC's gaming performance by adding a second GeForce GTX 590, for an incredible Quad SLI gaming mode. "

" the GTX 590 clocks in at 48dB, more than two times quieter than the closest competitive product under full graphics load "

" the fastest dual graphics card available today "

Anyway i can understand AMD, at their place i will have a good laugh reading the marketing of Nvidia ..

the only marketing should be: " GTX590: the world quieter dualgpu card " ... or the faster Nvidia Dual GPU ... " ...

But i don't know why AMD enter the same marketing bullsh is doing Nvidia for years.

( this said, i find really good the 590 is quieter, this is a good orientation for this type of card .... I don't want critic the 590. just the marketing of nvidia, but well this is just marketing so who care. )
