it is not so much the rich countries like usa and japan etc. that i worry about but the poor ones that dont have the resources to prepare/rebuild

Tell it it's a :banana::banana::banana::banana: and threaten it with replacement

    Edit:
So far I'm looking for the original page and so on...

But so far nothing relevant to what's going on right now to the wave tracking.
Where did you get your info or is it an educated guess ?

    Edit:
Found this but that's it for the moment.
    http://www.jma.go.jp/en/tsunami/
I had heard it off of aljazeera live link... they also displayed a time map of where the waves would be... i have been unable to find a link to show...

so far i have heard nothing else

in regards to the reactor...according to news..... the pumps that are used to cool the rods are unable to acquire the necessary water ...

Yeah something about not having power to cool it...

I was listening to the Hawaii feed a bit ago, there were setting up an lz, landing zone on a highway a bit ago, not sure why.
I closed that page a sec ago though because it was dead silent for a min or 2.

finally got news from my family in Tokyo (Adachi-ku).
Everyone is well but still waiting to hear back from some other relatives that we've not been able to call. Mum was saying that this was the strongest quake she had ever experienced. Hope the Nuke stations are all under control and that everyone is safe.

I am watching it here since the morning - I was like WTF?! when getting up and turning on the TV...it looked so horrible when the wave was rushing into the land with all the cars, boats and even houses swimming with it.
also the damages seems to be really heavy in some regions. I really hope all of our friends are fine and could find a save place.

I know very little about nuclear plants and fail safe measures... How severe is this? (where 1 is "no problemo" and 10 is "Chernobyl looms in the horizon")

Fukushima is a boiling water reactor. Japan is about 50/50 BWR/PWR. I've heard that the emergency was declared prematurely and there are no problems but it could just be all of the confusion. We probably won't know if there was truely an emergency or not and how bad it is for the next day or two. It likely a complete mess on the other side of the pond.

Supposedly the waves that hit Indonesia are only a few cm's high.
However it's not over yet, they are waiting it out to see what happens.

Also note there were several after shocks, several quakes past 5.x after that 8.9 so...
In 2 hours? probably from now they should reach Hawaii.

Most of the damage was north of tokyo.
But supposedly there were a few fires there in tokyo.

The oil refinery fire thing is still going on I guess.
Looked like there's also an oil tanker out there that was caught in the tsunami.

As for the nuke plant, I heard 2 of them had cooling probs, but the live news says 1 plant.
And from what I've heard, just a min ago, it's still an ongoing issue.
A few of there other nuke plants auto shutdown.

At least one of the main railways is stopped, not sure if that is working now or not.
The airport in tokyo is shutdown and they are directing traffic to a military base I heard.

It's one huge mess over there in japan/nippon .
7th largest quake in recorded history, largest in the last 300 years supposedly.

It gets me wondering, I hope there isn't any old ww2 subs with mercury canisters still in them near japan...
The german sub that was found near new york is already leaking mercury all over the place...
An good sized earth quake certainly wouldn't help that...
    ^^, :\
I wish they would clean that up, and find that darn 2nd stage plutonium core by thule air force base..

A bit offtopic but I will have a go ...

Mayan?/aztec? mentions this age being the age of earth quakes supposedly.
Shiva/hindu/buddah(tripple goddess, etc(greek fates, etc)) religion also has a calender simuler to the mayan/aztec one, I haven't took a look at it much though.
But it does say something about it being an age of evil or something I don't know exactly what's it's called, it's supposedly when people's hate peaks and so on.

The way I look at it.
This being an age of earthquakes supposedly..., peru last year had the big one.
    Now japan.
Given that was in 2010, in 2012 we'll complete the galactic cycle (a galactic year) and our solar system will be right next to a black hole in the middle of our galaxy (happens every 10, 12 or 15k years or something, I don't know the exact # off the top of my head).
So I assume by 2015 the worst will be over given the info we have on our recent past, earth quake wise.

As for polar shift stuff, that I have no clue.
Supposedly it's supposed to be dramatic when it does happen, but this I haven't done any research on.
One doc I watched said it was supposed to be dramatic baised on sand sediments or something.

The only thing I'm worried about, mass melting of those gas ice sheets in the ocean will cause major increases in temps...
    That would really suck.
If such a thing happened, all ice caps would melt.
Causing big increases in water levels, essentially saying good bye to the east coast of the usa and so on.
And probably flooding all the way to michigan where I live, instead of a glove looking thing it might look like a buch of small islands in the future.
    That's my guess.

What I really worry about, is extreme temps increases or decreases.
    Both are bad.
If we get another ice age, which is very doubtful, then you could say goodbye to a ton of plant life, and sustaining the human pop. would be quite hard without large scale hydroponics or aeroponics...

At the moment though, all I think will happen is a few more big earth quakes like today.
And hopefully nothing more eh .

Anyways my heart goes to the people of nippon (japan).
I wish I were there to help.

Now, a telephone and the Internet are downed from Tokyo on the north.

Miahallen prays his safety which lives in the northeast.

12cm recorded rise in tide here in Taiwan from the Japanese tsunami so no harm done here. Stay strong Japan.
