My mistake 128. It has been a retarded day for sure. You gain a small increase which helps at any speed. I need a 580 right about now.

I was going to try it but never got round to it.....

I would suggest if you are going to try it you have a method of recovery bios wise in place before hand... oh & be prepaired to brick/loose it if it dont work.

Good luck & let me know how you get on.

It might work though I do not think I would try it myself unless someone here can show some serious gains.

So is Gigabyte doing anything about the cold boot issues ? I have send them messages on their tech support site and the dude just says that "B2 is defective". Only 5 people here don't experience this problem ever and the rest of us are having the cold boot problems.

Current and New ? B2 and B3 is just a chip swap, nothing else is changed. I mean if you are talking about the difference b/w B2 and B3 revision they are identical with different paint on the card board box.

ps: What im gonna do is I will swap my mobo for the new B3 revision, if its still POS cold booting trash, than ill exchange for another brand since it will still have warranty and exchange possibility. I think that's a good plan. My goal is to try and test as many mobos as possible untill i find the one that is working properly in this Universe.

ps2; I'll also buy a second set of cheap memories from another company (non G.SKILL) ~1600mhz SB certified and i will be playing LEGO with mobos and memories until i get this Sandy Bridge fiasco working !

ps3: If it still doesn't work for some reason after all of this, i will take a trip to Intel headquarters and cry in front of their LOBBY !!!!

Thats the way I understood it, but having the board for a while & experiencing the way the board/bios (some worse than others) handles drives & ahci the B2 chipset very well could be causing your issues..... we..... you will have to wait & see

Actually screw this. At the end of the day i dont really care about how high my CPU overlocks or world record ":banana::banana::banana:ography" screen shots, i just want my system stable. Asus seems to officially acknowledge the cold boot issue and provided a fix for it so im willing to take my chances with them on this one. I don't have time to play around and hope that Gigabyte did something different with the B3. Thats my opinion.

Rig pic for someone to show how I got my water cooling setup.

3 x 90CFM 120 x 38MM fans on top of rad in pull, 1 X old 120 as a spacer to lift the rad off the case & 1 x 120mm 60CFM rear case fan blowing air into the case.

    Here's the problem.
There are people in the Asus camp who are JUST as pissed with the P8p67 and the random idle freeze issues and bios bricks and other stuff, who want to ditch them and go to gigabyte.

Frankly, the grass simply isn't greener on the other side.

If you want an Asus board, go with the Maximus IV Extreme, which will cost you a kidney (and which doesn't seem to have those P8p67 bugs). That's actually a VERY tempting board. And the normal LLC setting is very even and makes the vdroop almost consistent at all load levels, sort of like the Pentium 3 no vdroop days. Unfortunately, it's too expensive for me. But MAYBE, if I decide to give some computer parts to a friend, I'll grab the M4E for myself and give him the worse of the two overclocking SB's, and the (B3) UD5.

For you, just stick with what you have...at least you don't have the idle freeze bug....

Yea i was also looking at the M4E. Problem is that:

    1. I hate doing SLI so i got only 1 video card.
    2. Im gonna need a new sound card.
    3. Socket 1155 does not deserve that much money poured in it since new stuff is coming out in a few months which will have longer life span.

Suppose the bad transistor short in the B2 chip was causing the 5V instability which a previous post claimed to be the cause of the cold boot issue. Asus was able to compensate for this due to thier more advanced power handling. Hopefully for Gigabyte the B3 will solve the issue, if it does from what I can tell the Gigabytes will be the boards to own for a long life reliable 24/7 OC.

I personally like the hybrid bios, history, 3rd part support possibilities, I mean that new bios on the Asus is so new it could take a long time to debug and who wants a bios that people don't know how to modify? My current motherboard was kept up to date even after the Abit stopped supported it, zzz kept tweaking the bios and updating the firmware. That's an important thing to consider if you are buying a motherboard to last 5 years or more.

Sounds plausible & that may well explain why people like me have no boot problem.... having a big PSU with plenty 5v amps

I would think so, 28 feeding the motherboard should be more then enough. If I get some time I can hook a data logger up to all the 5v inputs on the motherboard through my fluke 289 and check for drop out under load or any potential instability regarding v fluctuation.
