When MSI release the 950 Mhz version, I'll want that bios to try on my cards to see if it improves them.
I was thinking of selling my weaker one and getting another, but thats rather excessive over just 20 Mhz lol.
980 is fine. They are also stable at 990 Mhz and 1125 mV but I dont really get and gain from that. They crash at 995+ (well, one card does).
I'll just end up flogging these on Ebay when 28 nm comes out anyway.
@sam- I have a kill-a-watt that I will take some scientific readings from tonight. I will post overall system power measured at the wall, while running Kombustor while the GPU has volts of 1.01 thru 1.15. My initial observations were just by watching the output from a power conditioner I run my PC thru. Definite variations in the amperage. I will post more scientific numbers tonight.
@bhavv- flashing a bios really wont gain you anything. All you will find is different stock clocks along with a different vGpu. Unless you wanted to eliminate the "hassle" of running Afterburner/Rivatuner to OC your GPUS. A different bios could also change memory timings, but with the proliferation of cheap GDDR5, I am guessing every gtx560 made will use the 5gbps Samsung chips, thus no changes in mem timings from board to board.
I thought about trying another card as well, but pretty much all manufacturers are wise to the OC ability of the 460/560 and will bin their cards accordingly. I think unless you got lucky, you are going to have to pay up for a guarenteed 1ghz+ OC.
I think that these would all excell at low temps/high volts. Fermi loves watercooling. Not a path I am willing to explore at the 40nm/$250 node however.

Yea I wouldnt watercool these, they arent even hot enough to require it. The temps are fine on air, you just need to get really lucky.
Have you tried setting your fan speeds to 100% just to test if it increases your OC headroom?
Flash bios to MSI SOC 950 Mhz cards. Buy a pair of brand new MSI SOCs @ 950 Mhz. Change the stickers, put old standard OC 880 Mhz cards with the SOC bios into the new cards boxes, Ebay as brand new unused =D

Yes. I can run single benches at 1ghz no problem with the fan at %100. There is just no way, no how I would run my cards day to day at anything higher than %60 fan speed (under full load). I watercool the rest of my PC so it is very nearly silent. The MSI 560 is already quite a bit louder than my old GTX260.
I'll assume you are kidding... Unfortunately there are a lot of people who pull this stunt. There is a special place in hardware hell for people like this.![]()

Just got my GTX 560 Ti from microcenter today (talked em down to 259.99) I was able to get this out of mine, an msi twin frozr so far but just started playing with it around 10 pm tonight... and my cpu is at daily driving speed aswell. This is with voltage maxed in after burner.

Is it a coincidence that your wifes pc is called Uranus?

nice!
looks like you have good rams too!
if you get a chance can you post up your ram spec numbers?

Kidding about the changing stickers and selling as brand new part
I would flash my current cards to the SOC bios, and advertise them as refurbs with a flashed bios stating how long I have owned them for.
I wouldnt ever bother with selling and upgrading to the same thing just for better overclocks, I havnt done it with my volt hungry I7 chip as I'd rather just wait until the next gen and sell and upgrade then.
So your card actually is capable of 1 Ghz, but you run the fan slower than its stock profile, hence your overclocks will be reduced with the higher temps![]()

Quick question.
Do any of you guys know if the Gigabyte 1Ghz SOC card uses a Ref. board? I'm thinking of WCing this card once blocks become available.
Looks to perform very well, on par with some of the 570's in some tests, or just a few frames under.

I ordered two of the Palit gtx 560 2gb for sli. With several of my games I have some stuttering at high settings. I noticed that my memory usage was going over 1gb. I also like that the card has a vga connector for my monitor. I will post some benches later.

Sony GDM-FW900...Z-5500...X-Fi Forte
hey gaul can you clock them to atleast 900+ and post 3dm11 scores?? Also are these the 2gb editions? If so can you post some some game benches running a 3way monitor setup??
Another thing I find funny is AMD/Intel would snipe any of our Moms on a grocery run if it meant good quarterly results, and you are forever whining about what feser did?
I just noticed something weird about my cards while overclocking the ram.
The good one overclocks and runs stable with no problems at 1000 / 2400 clocks. The bad one occasionally crashes when trying to manually set the ram clock over 2275 Mhz, but if I manage to set it to 2400 without crashing, it still runs completely stable in every benchmark without any problems or crashes.
I tried rotating the cards around again and I noticed that the good card has a default voltage of 1025 mV, and the bad one has a default voltage of 1012 mV, indicating that they have different bioses on them?
Do you think its worth a shot extracting the bios off the good card and flashing it onto the bad one? How would I go about doing this?

Question
Can someone who owns a Gigabyte 1Ghz SOC measure the length of this card for me? i have a mini itx system that i would like to have it in but am limited to length being max of 9 3/4 inchs
Jen
GTX 560 reference is 9", the GB 560 SOC sure looks like the same PCB as the 460 version. Looks longer than 9" to me. Maybe 9.5"?

i am hoping it is 9.5 long as i would like to have it in this computer. the current video card i have even though its 9.5 it has connectors at back of card so i cant use it. while gigabyte has it on top of the card this i could use easily if length isnt beyond 9 3/4 length
Jen
Unfortunately Gigabyte doesn't publish size specs for there vid cards, like EVGA. This sucks IMO, I have a question on the size of the 560 OC, can't get answered.
I have to look at pics on the web, compare with known cards, then hope it fits. Reviewers seem to ignore this issue as well, they must think everyone runs on a open bench.![]()
