No, it's not aiming at the same market and yes, the market does exist, and I got what you mean, after the edit. (it's "market" btw.)

Two objections: Prices are not set in stone, with rebates etc. that 1GB version might end-up easily around 249$, if AMD and/or AIBs decide so. Second, after the pcb revision, the 2GB might not unlock anymore. Or it gets quietly EOLed and the 6970 gets it's price lowered a little for consolation. Sounds likely, given the yields of those chips.

But until it happens, we can debate in circles until we fall over. Let's humbly wait and see what happens.
