    The day after I had Sapphire HD6850 Toxic. 3DMark 2006 score @ 1000/1200.

    [IMG][/IMG]

I changed it with a Gigabyte HD6870. With the original bios VER013.006.000.006.038722 I could not grow GPU frequency over 920MHz . After I put the Sapphire HD6870 bios, VER013.006.000.006.038722 same version is OC 1000/1200 but performance is almost insignificant.

My asus 6850 (2 months old) has a strange problem.
It runs on stock voltage 925/1125, but when I try to reach more and up the core voltage, I get small artifacts(green dots) during normal desktop usage (browsing).
Where not talking about big increases: from 1.150 to 1.154 (trixx/afterburner) is enough to get the artifacts.

I also changed the bios to a asus 6870. It gave problems through hdmi (black screen), but on dvi it worked.
Same problems though, since the voltage is standard on 1.72. Flashed it back and hdmi worked again

    Any thoughts??

Here's a screenshot of a dark image. When scrolling it with internet explorer, I get the green dots.

    update:
Just ran msi afterburner with the " force constant voltage" option.
Now the card doesn't downclock anymore, just constant 3d clocks. No visual problems. Only drawback, not good for gpu and power consumption.

play with my HD6870 an Unigine Heaven Benchmark 11X yesterday and max on air was 1050/1245 load temperature went up to 78c with the fan at 100%
so I took a XSPC chipset block and sat on gpuen it helped a little 1110/1245 load temperature was then max 45c, and the water comes right after the CPU.

I think i'm going to have more fun with RBE. Will finally be able to create a fan table that's suitable. Atm i just set speed to 46% and play away, temps never touch 70c. Although with furmark temps just continuously rise, because of the fixed fan speed. Temps after 10mins or so of furmark reach just over 75c, and no doubt will slowly continue to rise.

updated: Used RBE edited BIOS, 1.35v 75% fan speed.

The scores are notably better compared to when i was using smart doctor, probably because smart doctor caused stuttering and mini fps drops.

Note for those who use modded 6950 cards. Afterburner provides voltage control only on reference design 6950 cards with 100% original 6950 BIOS and 6970 cars with 100% original 6970 BIOS. Afterburner's voltage control WILL NOT function if 6970 BIOS is flashed on 6950, it is supposed to be that way and it won't change in future versions and any "bugreports" on it or demands to "fix" it will be ignored.
So does that mean we can't even use it on an unlocked 6950 BIOS? sucks

    But wait, found this:

Yes, it is possible to override the database to make Afterburner voltage control working with 6950 flashed with 6970 BIOS. 6970 voltage calbiration info should be added to 6950 configuration file in this case:

    VDDC_VT1556_Defaults = 9A 5C 9B 80

I havent had a chance to try it. I dl'ed it last night and installed it. That would really suck. I am tired of flashing and more flashing. I guess it would be better to have a modded bios unlocked than voltage imo....

I am going to look around some forums. Just cause it is not supported doesn't mean it can't happen. The crappy smartdoc could overvolt so..... why not better software?

I don't mind using RBE to increase voltage anyway. I have 2 BIOSes, a normal one with 1.175v which yields 950 core, and another 'extreme' benching BIOS which has 1.35v and that allows about 1025 core.

Any higher than 1.35v is pointless for me, it doesn't give any considerable stability to higher clocks... due to temps i'm guessing.
