I think that we lost the battle. Nobody from ASUS has anything to say.

I've got one "Out of office" message from the first try and one REJECTED when I tried to contact them again today.

    That is not good Alien

Have you tried filling in the support form on their website with this request?
At least it gets you into the system?

I recall ASUS have a fairly high turn over on support people so it is possible that some are no longer there any more which you had past correspondence with?

That's a good idea JohnZS. Perhaps we should all do that.

To make it easier for everyone. Here's the link to the ASUS Support: http://vip.asus.com/eservice/techser...Language=en-us
Ask to add MCH Read ODT, DRAM Read ODT and DRAM Write ODT. Also add a this link: http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?...e=en-us&page=9

The link is the thread on the ASUS forum with all the information they need to know why we want it to be added to the BIOS.

We've done that with succes in the past and if you don't like their answer you can give them a nice 0 for being very helpful.

I have just requested it for the Rampage Extreme and I have linked to your thread, I also said if possible please could they add it to the Rampage Formula and all other ROG boards as these are enthusiast boards which usually appeal to enthusiast users who want to squeeze the extra bit of performance out of their PC.
I also requested they fixed the CPU VID-RATIO fail message when using manual multiplier on the QX9650 CPU.

Well in keeping with the bad news it looks like my memory is the reason I couldn't reach higher FSB's.
It no longer even posts if the ram is set to 1200Mhz 5-5-5-15, for it to post it needs 6-6-6-18. Here's hoping GSKILL can RMA it since it's discontinued .
That would explain why I kept getting 0x124 BSOD's.

I got this back from ASUS so I am not hopeful.

About your request to add some options in the BIOS, I can but send them to the relative department as suggestion in the further design. But I could not guarantee that they would be added on the next BIOS, or any newer BIOS for the motherboard.
But about the another issue that manually adjusting a multiplier on a QX9650 can lead to CPU-VID Ratio fail (this issue was resolved on the P5E3 and P5E3 Pro, please cam you fix it on the Rampage Extreme board), could you help to describe the symptom in detail for a further check?
Thanks for your cooperation and sorry for any inconvenience.

    And I got this:

    Dear XXX,

For Rampage Formula, it has been EOL for a long time, I am afraid our RD department didn’t have resource for your request.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

    Best regards,
    XXX

It isn't as bad as it looks. You have to read between the lines.

I mean that I think that when enough customers complain about the BIOS and request the MCH Read ODT, DRAM Read ODT and DRAM Write ODT, they are going to add them. So take a few minutes time and send ASUS a Technical Inquiry to do the request. They can't afford losing customers.

    That reply is awful.
It is not even 3 years old yet! I believe it was released end of Q1 2008.
I hope they don't do the same to me
But yes, you are right if enough Xtreme and ASUS board readers fill in a request they surely have to review the request to release a BETA BIOS.

    @A-Grey
Well here's hoping ASUS do, I've also sent a request.

As to my hardware issue it looks as if it isn't memory, i put in my backup GSKILL PI Black's and i get the same 0x124 BSOD during P95 Blend+UT2004 at known stable settings.
Any suggestions as to what the issue is??

    Cheers

Sometimes the BIOS can get scrambled leo27 and you have to reset to defaults.
Before you do that have you checked to see if any untoward software has been installed?
Or any recent updates to antivirus etc?
Also PSU's can decay over time (this may not be so much the case if you have a premium PSU with plenty of W to spare).

Yeah I have tried loading setup defaults, clearing CMOS, and even re flashing and I get the same issue. The reason in think its a hardware issue is because of it's issues at even POSTING at previous stable settings and it can't even POST with my ram at the rated 1200Mhz 5-5-5-15 where it has before.

Might seem strange, but have you checked that nothing has a lose connection? (might seem a silly idea but it has happened to me in the past with a lose cable).

I got another e-mail from ASUS today, they provided me a word document to fill in, which I sent back to them.

I think as well is the memory. Upgraded to WIN 7 and immediatly got BSOD and freeze and may other issues. This is on a previous stable system.
Several attempts, even with lower FSB 420/425/430/435 x9 caused Large FFT to fail within a minute.

After several hours i got it stable (as it was before at 435x9 but with REF Cycle Time 55 mem timming and not 52 as it was before. all other settings been the same. Go FIGURE!!!!!!

Did you try with the same BIOS revision that it was stable before?

The solution for me was using the Rampage Extreme timings. Without these timings I needed more CPU Voltage. Also try with changing the CPU GTL Voltage Reference and adjust the FSB Termination Voltage.

This is also the reason why we need the ODT timings in the BIOS.

To much time was wasted to try to fix the DDR +1200Mhz memory problems by ASUS. They tried to fix the stability problems at higher FSB but failed. It took me to long to find the DDR +1200MHz solution and was to late with the FSB solution.

Now that there's a solution to fix the stability problems they don't want to do it because it's EOL. I don't know what they can gain with that and all I can think of is that they are going to lose a lot of loyal customers and also prove that their ROG boards are only overpriced and have no other advantage than what the competition offers.

No problem here with saving and loading an overclock profile. Try with loading setup defaults. Enter the BIOS at setup defaults and try to overwrite them by saving the default settings. Than try again with your overclock settings.

    Alright I'm still having problems.
I've flashed to BIOS 902 and tried known stable 3.4Ghz settings (specifically for the 902 BIOS) for the current older GSKILL PI Black's I have and whilst I have no more blue screens it fails P95 Blend+UT2004 after around an hour, previously this setup lasted 16Hrs until I stopped the test.

I think the reason the blue screens are fixed is that the 1002 BIOS flash was borked.
However there is defiantly a hardware problem going on, but I'm not sure how to isolate if its the CPU or the motherboard or even the PSU.

It isn't a hardware problem. I think that it's the temperature. I also had that problem. A temperature difference of 5° Celsius was enough to fail LinX and I could fix it with using MCH Read ODT 9T.

We really need the ODT timings in the BIOS. It's a lot more stable with tweaking the ODT. They are very important for the X48 Chipset and it would be a shame if ASUS didn't release a BIOS with these timings available.

Its possible it was 29C ambient temp in the room (its summer) but the NB wasn't getting very hot it was around 45ish. I'll try with my 1200Mhz memory and see if it posts with this BIOS if it does and tests fine then I'll do some testing with the case off and a large fan blowing air in to see if it is temperature related.

It's just that the ODT time makes it unstable because of the higher room temperature. It doesn't matter what the NB temp is because it isn't the problem.

    Look guys it's that simple.

No ODT adjustment in the BIOS = No stability

ASUS R&D refuses to add it = Game Over

I can't help you any further. I've done all I can. There's prove that it's necessary and not only for overclocking but also for 8 GB memory and any other instability at stock speeds. It's the fix for all these instabilities and ASUS R&D refuses to add it to the BIOS.

All I can say is that everyone should complain about it and ask ASUS to fix the mess they left behind because of poor research. When that doesn't motivate them to add the ODT adjustments in the BIOS there's nothing we can do anymore but come to the conclusion that they don't deserve our loyalty as a customer and that we wasted to much time and money on a board that has lack of a decent BIOS.
