I just learned from using my camera. If I didn't know what something was, I looked it up. It took me a few years before I felt comfortable with every setting, what they do, and when to use what...
I still cant really take very 'good' pictures in terms of composition. Im currently limited to fairly good technical quality with questionable composition.

About all I do in post, is Auto Tone, Contrast, Color. Sometimes I manually define a black, white, and grey point, apply lens correction from a profile, and unsharp mask. From there I then adjust saturation accordingly, or potentially selectively desaturate the image. Im not really a fan of black and white for the most part... It does help quite a bit at hiding high ISO color noise.

Next time, don't do that. The best thing to do is to shoot in color mode, then use Black and White through post-processing

do you know any good links i can learn what all the manual settings do on the cameras? and also tips for post processing in photoshop?
That will be specific depending on your camera. Try to Google "*Your Camera* User's Guide," that might do on the settings. If still in doubt, don't hesitate to ask on here.

There is a thread on XS that gives you link to learn Photoshop, I've not seen them and I cannot guarantee that all of them are for post-processing.

You might find some plug-ins for Photoshop to be easier (such as simply sliders and painter tool) for post-processing. Something I use is the entire Topaz Labs Plug-in Suite, it costs about $200 for the whole Suite Bundle. It will eventually get really expensive, I suggest you to try Lightroom, it is basically a organization tool (like the Adobe Bridge), but it gives you some sliders to do Color Toning and Exposure.

Thanks, I must admit that i had help from this http://tiltshiftmaker.com/ website. ; ) You select a photo of your own to upload, and then the program does the rest, you just pick where on the photo you want the tilt-shift to line up.

I apologize, somehow I thought that XS had caught upto the curve and installed an auto image reducer like all of the other forums that I frequent, I apologize for the huge resolution.

What I was really interested in was whether the subject of the image works better in the center or on the bottom in relationship to the backdrop...

Because I am not showing my picture as an example to other photographers (rather the opposite), I did not feel the need to share the EXIF data.

    Thanks RADCOM.

That photo is pretty creepy but really cool. I like the focus on the leaves.

    Thanks you, Weevil!

Not what you might expect, I used the EFs 55-250mm IS lens I'm poor, I shoot with a second hand 40D, a 18-55mm IS, 50mm F/1.8, and 55-250mm IS.

And yes, I live in south San Jose, very close to Los Gatos. Lived in Los Gatos for most of my life. Where in SC are you?

Here's one I took a few days ago, just for you, Weevil

We live up in Felton right next to Roaring Camp Railroads. Nice shot of cliff drive, beautiful.

I grew up in the Cambrian neighborhood on Calico Ave, Dad still lives there. Where you at?

Here's one of a blackberry Leaf.
