Thanks for info. Going to try it after I reinstall Crysis.

    @ Pants on Fire, davetheshrew

Dunno about smart doctor but you can load up MSI AFterburner to check your voltage and overclock settings.

Adjust the config file to allow unsupported GPUs to enable support for the 6900 series. Set it to 1.

You can use HW physX along with ATI using this patch

I am using my 465 GTX in a 4x PCIE slot with unlocked 6950 CF. Using 266.44 drivers with Patch 1.04ff - following the instructions. Super easy. PhysX in Fluidmark, Metro 2033, Mafia II, Cryostasis and Batman AA is working.

Will test Mass Effect and Mirrors Edge later.

Overall FPS is WORST with max / highest physX on but better than cpu PhysX. Check the physX thread in the nvidia forum for my Mafia II quick report.

Is there any update for afterburner past 2.0 version? Anyone experienced bug wile crossfire is enable afterburner is unable to detect gpu2 temp, gpu2 core,gpu2 mem? Restarting application does not solve thing, but computer restarting does. I noticed this specially since my OSD was missing in game...
    I've been running 10.12 on win7 x64 with two stock 6950...

    just fyi:
a few people here experienced artifacting in gputool. didn't know gputool before that and downloaded the gputool community technology preview (as i was not able to find any other version of it ... ?).
every now and then it detected artifacts - on a 4850@stock clocks. after a few tries i figured out this only happens when the stability tester is run in windowed mode. when the renderer runs at fullscreen there seem to be are no artifacts at all.

since ati tool and gputool are both from tpu (presumably from w1zzard), they are probably using the same engine and methods of detecting artifacts - which may be buggy when run in windowed mode. atleast that's what i suspect. maybe w1zzard can give us some insights

*edit* forget what i wrote. artifacts appear in fullscreen as well, but it takes much longer. in gputool i ran the "find max" feature and after 15 mins it even downclocked the gpu core from 625mhz to 550mhz. lol.

I just tried this on my MSI 6950. GPUz shows the full 1536 shaders however when i run ANY type of graphics app (i.e. game, gpu-z, afterburner, even html-5 web) it freezes and then restarts the display driver and tells me it had stopped responding and it has recovered successfully.

Is my card just a bad one that can't be flashed?

I will try going to 'B' bios to see if that solves the problem. tried 10.12 and 10.12a hotfix.

edit: switching back to 'B' bios fixed all the issues with freezing up and restarting the display driver. Maybe i should try a different bios? i used the amd 6970 bios, i'll try the others.

Did you flash the 6970 BIOS? If so then maybe the card can't handle the 880 core, maybe even memory.

There's a 6950 asus bios floating about which unlocks shaders etc but clocks stay 6950.

Yes, i flashed multiple bio files including Sapphire and the stock AMD 6970 bios they all behave in a similar manner. It boots fine but when i try any 3d app like ccc or msi, even gpu-z it just freezes the screen with some artifacts and then if i'm lucky the driver will recover and give a message about how it restarted, then if i try to do anything again the cycle repeats.

I have confirmed the card runs great when flashed back to the msi 6950 stock bios.

So, do i have the "golden shower" sample?

Most probably yeah. Download the 3.0.2 beta of trixx here:

    http://www.sapphiretech.com/ssc/TriXX/

That way you can go below CCC limits, to see if it's stable at 6950 clocks with the unlocked shaders.

You were correct all along, the modded 6950 bios was the trick. runs flawless now - so far up to 860 core and 1325 memory on stock msi 6950 voltage. Must have been some other setting in the 6970 bios that locked it - like mem or clocks too high, voltage too high, etc.. ideas?

    Again, thanks Oztopher!

Cobra does it work fine w/o the flashing when you use stock bios? I know your pain i dont think its the card its got to be one of the bios combinations that could make it work correctly although there is a very small chance its just a really low bin board, mine is also low bin but it at least unlocks ok.

Here is a link to the bios files i used including the modded msi 6950, stock msi 6950, sapphire 6970, and amd 6970.

Cobra, i would wait until afterburner or trixx gets voltage support, with smart doctor running in the background all games and benchmarks are gona stutter i had exact same thing. Unfortunately you need smart doctor running in the background to allow voltage to be set and stay.

If your card works fine at 6970 stock clocks, then i would just flash a normal 6970 BIOS and be done with it. Until more voltage support comes out.

and no problem twistedneck, of course the thanks goes to w1zzard for figuring most of this stuff out

I hate smartdoc. Even if I get the 6970 bios I still have to deal with that crap.I just put the standard sapphire 6970 bios back in them and they run awesome. Yes that is the best bet is wait on AB or Trixx. With the stock bios it runs smooth under crossfire. Thanks guys.

Each individual card runs fine with the modded 6950 bios with smartdoc. It is the massive stutter it has when I do crossfire.

I'm running 910/1450 on mine for 24/7 use on stock volts - 1450 mem is the highest I can get (bios lock) so maybe the mem will go higher - anyone had much luck with mem overclocking?

1450 is good. I think just under 1500 is stable for me, 1500 has too much random instability.

Use trixx man, it's such a good tool. You can go past CCC limits but it also keeps powerplay while idle As soon as voltage support is released it will be the only OC tool that i'll use

I just picked up a couple of Diamond HD6950's. they seem to have taken the 6970 bios OK and are running well, (although had yo unlock the bois to flash)
I am at 1450 / 920 stock volt .. in crossfire. I think I have some head room..

Temps are great.. the cards are staying below 80deg .

Just did first 3dmark 11. Very happy.
