Gigabyte P67A-UD4 vs Asus P8P67 Pro

    All,

I'm trying to decide between these two SB boards. Thee only main differences are the Power system with Asus Digi+ and the USB 3.0 chip (Asus has NEC, and GB has Renesas)

Im leaning toward the Asus but Im concerned about wavering BIOS support.

    Thoughts, opinions?

The asus has 2 extra sata ports and a possibly better layout with a 3rd 16x pcie slot, thats the only differences i see between them and of course that bios.
If they're both the same price i'd probably go for the asus.

I don't think either VRM will be the bottleneck in OCing: both are quite sufficient for what you can achieve on SBs considering they don't scale well sub-zero.

I'm myself considering the P8P67 PRO or EVO over Gigabyte's UD4 or UD5 because of a few things:
    • 2 extra internal SATA 6Gb/s from the Marvell controller.
    • Intel NIC: PRO has it only, EVO pairs it with another Realtek chip. UD4 and UD5 both have a single Realtek chip.
    • 2 PWM-controllable connectors: the SYS_FAN3 header on the UD4 and UD5, according to the manual, has the 4th pin but doesn't use. It is marked "Reserved", while on the CPU_FAN header it's labeled "Speed Control".
    • Integrated Bluetooth. Not a must, but nice, I'd use it eventually.
    • UEFI. But hopefully Gigabyte will correct that omission soon enough.
    • PRO has extra PCI-E x16-as-x4 slot over UD4. Both UD5 and EVO have it. All share it with the PCI-E x1 slots.

    But:
    • UD4 and UD5's eSATA ports are 6Gb/s powered by the Marvell chip. ASUS chose to route internally and use a JMicron chip for 3Gb/s eSATA ports instead. (BTW, are there any eSATA 6Gb/s devices available yet?)
    • The UD5 has 4 USB 3.0 ports on its IO Panel. Both the PRO and EVO have only 2.
    • UD4 and UD5 are completely black. I like it.

I didn't want to have to shell out the extra $20 for the EVO because I don't actually need dual-Gigabit, but I'd miss the power, reset and clear CMOS switches quite a bit.

    Giga ud7

Another thing I find funny is AMD/Intel would snipe any of our Moms on a grocery run if it meant good quarterly results, and you are forever whining about what feser did?

I'm Considering a MSI P67-GD65 myself. Its a bit more expensive then a UD4 but way less compared to a UD5. But had similar / better features then the UD5.

There will also be a GD80 later.
Never liked Asus boards my best Asus board was a A7V266-E after that i never liked any of them. I did like my last two GA boards. And the DFi boards. But i'm gonna try something new this time. Only have had a 780g AMD MSI board but that worked very well.

    I liked the GD65 too, but I'm a bit of a nitpicker

    - No PCI-E x4 slot
    - A single PWM header (but 4 extra 3-pin headers, makes up for it a bit)
    - A single USB 2.0 header (I need 4 USB ports on the front of the case, no idea why MSI couldn't include a second header )
    - The specs don't list DDR3-1866 like all other manufacturers do for some reason. Hopefully it was just an oversight, and the divider is actually usable.

As long as it's reasonably priced it will be a great option

It also has a USB3.0 header total of 4x USB3.0. Maybe thats why it only has a single USB2.0?

I will lookinto that 1866 support.

    As for the price. over here its 165 for a GD65 and 240 euro's for a UD5.

Yeah, but unfortunately neither my case nor my crappy fan-controller-with-USB-ports support USB.3.0.

And indeed for the price the MSIs are awesome: the GD55 is a bargain for $160 if you don't care about eSATA.

I'm a big fan of Gigabyte, and my last 3 boards have all been Gigabyte. This time i'm going with Asus but not the P8P67 Pro, i'll be after a P8P67 Deluxe.
IMO, the Asus boards have better features, Intel lan is one, USB3 front box is another, PLX chip on the Deluxe, Bluetooth, UEFI BIOS. The list is long.

The UD5 has 4 in the back panel + 2 headers for an extra 4 ports. But what you could use 8 USB 3.0 for is beyond my comprehension.

I've been using the MSI P45 Neo-F for the last two years. It's a not a high-end board, but it was quite cheap, and I have a single complaint so far: the latest BIOS has problems with S3, but it had no relevant changes, so I just reverted to the previous version and everything went back to normal.

I haven't done any extreme OCing, just running my E7300 at 3.6-3.8GHz daily, and it did quite well at that. Also, the Stereo Out port on the back doesn't work anymore, but I suspect it has something to do with me switching devices at least 3 times a day

The Deluxe has 16 phase power, and the PLX8608 PLX PCIe controller.
The EVO doesn't have the PLX chip, and i think it is a 12 phase design.
The Deluxe also has the Marvell 9128 SATA 6Gbps, while the EVO uses a Marvell 9120 SATA 6Gbps.

They both of course have Intel native SATA 6Gbps via P67.

I like the layout on asus boards much better than Gigabyte, but after my experience with the rex3 it will be a cold day in hell before they get another dollar from me. Will look around and see what comes out, or go with the Giga UD7 despite the not so great layout.

Asus and better bios...... I dont trust Asus anymore. Bios might be better looking. If you ask me EFI is overrated . Its a nice extra but i dont need a better looking bios or mouse support.

I would rather buy a GA, MSi or DFi board then a ASUS.
