Having just spoken to an Areca tech, I plan on ordering an ARC-1880i controller to replace my LSI 9260-8i that is going back today.

Areca tells me that there are not any compatibility issues with the eVGA motherboards.

I was wondering if any of you ARC-1880 owners could comment on issues with the classified 3 (e770) motherboard.

    thanks

bear in mind the 1880 without the chance to upgrade the cache is not going to perform nearly as well as the 9260. especially if you take fastpath into consideration. however, if you cant get the lsi to work at all then it really wouldnt matter, but i would highly recommend a 1880-12 -16 or -24. it seems these cards shine with the cache.

awesome! You are now my new best friend

What I really want to do is put my 4 Vertex 2's on the ARC-1880i in RAID0 to use a Win7 boot drive and use the other 4 ports for individual 2tb drives (no RAID) JBOD. What ever drives are left over would go on the ICH10 ports.

My LSI 9260-8i left this afternoon for a better home at NewEgg and a refund. I should be ordering the replacement Areca by the middle of next week unless I read of some reason why another card would do a better job for me.

I wonder if Areca will offer the new wide coverage heatsink for 1880 owners! The CPU gets quite warm in a case with good airflow.

oh and the obligatory temps before and after.
NOTE: BEFORE temps are at IDLE.

after temps are under PCMV load
(controller temp btw is the expander, that is with a copper HS installed on it that is actually smaller than the previous HS)

I have my controller on the bottom slot with a 120mm fan running at 1,000RPM under the controller.

One other thing. I'm running an 1880-12 on a 760 classified that has USB issues so I purchased a pci-e usb 2.0 addon card. The strangest thing happened. The computer wouldn't power up with the card installed. I took it back to CompUSA and got a replacement thinking the first one was defective but the same thing happened with the replacement. I plugged the second card into a system I'm building for someone else on an Asus P6X58D and no problems. Then I installed the 1880 in the asus and once again the system wouldn't power up. It seems like a conflict with the 1880 which makes no sense to me at all. Anybody seen anything like this?

I ordered a NZXT IU01 Internal USB Expansion Device in the meanwhile. http://www.nzxt.com/new/products/cas..._usb_expansion

Even stock temps are acceptable - the new CPU can run up to 90C before there is alarm. I've seen it in the middle 60s but my case has strong flow.

    WC'ing the raid card? Nuts!

The new heatsink is nice because with the front to back (or bottom to top for FT-02 users) works even better. If you wanted to WC the 1880ix cards you need a block to cover both the CPU and SAS controller - similar to a MB water block. (but do-able). Bringing the fittings off the card (aka single slot solution) is definitely a good idea with a crowded case.

I have asked Areca to purchase the new heatsink, but Areca doesn't sell it separately.

you should insist that they mail you one for free. you are a customer and they obviously came up with the HS to alleviate heat issues, so i think they should send us one.

I just got off the phone with Tekram to find out that modifications have been made to the board (only the 1880-24) to accommodate the full coverage heatsink and it wont fit on the original version. They are offering a heatsink/fan combo similar to the one on the 1680 that is available for $10. I'm going to call Areca support to see if they will send me one at no charge.
