On the P55 you could set the power (wattage) and current (amperage) limits through software but for the UD6 at least this wasn't really necessary as Gig set the current reported to the CPU through hardware mod to somewhere around a fixed ~24A IIRC. This meant even if your OC'd board was pulling over 100A the CPU would still think it was only using 24A and under the TDC therefore not throttle. Also because the current measurement is part of the power measurement the TDP limit would not be tripped either.
So I guess now with the newer boards you now will have to set these limits to take advantage of TDP and TDC limiting, especially on the unlocked k series CPUs which use turbo bins as the unlocked multiplier.
