I've tried your suggestion, it's still stuck at 2:8

Is it because i use e5620?

Maybe, because I can change it, and I've seen other doing so too. But I wouldn't know, because I've never tried a e5620.

2:8 is the best option anyways, unless you have 133MHz RAM and have to use 2:6.

    Well it sucks

Because i use 1600mhz ram, and i only manage to 1480

As for now i'm already stable at 185 bclk stock volt

How do we claculate uncore frequency ? Is it 1.5x or 2x ?

I see, probably you could push that RAM, and gain a little extra.
You have to hear with e5620-owners to see if it really sucks, or is stuck because of something else.
All Westmere and Gulftown would do with x1.5, as afar as I know.

I've been battling this thing for almost a week now. I am not sure if it is the CPU's or the SR-2 but 6 DIMMs is impossible to get stable @ any clock speed. In the rare time I can get it to detect all 6 DIMM's it will fail LinX in 2.5 minutes.

Probably it's something fishy with the compatibility of your RAM, science it's so difficult to detect all of them, too.

I don't know what kind of RAM you have tho, but it can be the CPU too.
You could start with a good mem-test session to see if your RAM can keep up.

Ya I ran a memtest of all the ram last night at much higher clocks than I have been using them at. I am using 3x1GB of Kingston ValueRAM and 3 sticks of OCZ Platinum. I'll hopefully have the second SR-2 and ram by friday. Until I get them I am almost ready to just power the machine off and leave it. If I continue to try to mess with this thing I may have to go pick up a bottle of vodka to drown out the stress and headaches I am getting from this machine.

You've asked for fun, and got a lot of it. Harnessing such beast is half of the fun, you know. LOL.

But seriously, I don't think this is a big problem. Wait and test with your new RAM, it'll would most probably fix it. It may be some kind of compatibility issues with one of those sets, is my guess.

I am pretty sure there is something wrong besides the ram. I am just trying 3 sticks right now. I throw them in CPU1 slots and set them to 2:10, they work perfectly fine. Throw the exact same set in CPU0 and set them to CPU0, and set them to 2:10. Let the actual ratio is 2:6 and crashes LinX (@ stock clocks) in less than 20 minutes. I am about to swap the CPU's around to see if it follows the CPUs. I really hope the issue is w/ the board though.

I see, then it may be more than just RAM.

It's worth trying to swap CPU's anyways. I tried my CPUs on UD7 and one of them was much better. It would do BCLK211 easily, while the other one wouldn't do more than BCLK205.
I started with the good CPU in Socket#0 and found a stable 3.8GHz(200x19) OC. Then i swapped them, and everything got messed up with shutting audio and unstable system.
So i guess the MB is picky on the order of CPUs, at least when they don't have the same OC-headroom. It's worth trying to swap for this reason too.

It's probably because you enabled Turbo Performance in the BIOS. This will lock it to 2:8.

i didn't know that turbo will lock the ram divider,

    will try it.

EDIT: it is still stuck at 2:8

    There are two different turbos:

    Turbo Mode - by Intel

Turbo Performance - by EVGA. If this one is enabled, your mem divider will be locked at 2:8.

Well that was short lived. Board up and died tonight. Instant 'FF' code when powering on.

I am incredibly intrigued by a sr-2 build...

However I have no real use for it, I just game and do a lot of "casual" stuff. I would probably start folding though...

It wouldn't be easy to buy money wise, but I am up to save for it.

What do you guys think? Complete waste of money for me? Should I just shut up and be happy with my R3E and WR holding w3520?

I am in the same boat as you I simply want to build one because its very intriguing. Know I have to sell a bunch of my stuff, to fund one of these builds cause a pair of X5690's ain't going to be cheap

Yeah, I mean I have SOME (LOL) self control where as I would pick up some used chips and save some money...

IF I wound up doing it, I see it going...sell my w3520, which shouldn't be too hard considering it has a WR, put that towards a new chip for my R3E, then once I have the rest of the funds saved up...off the R3E and pick up the 2nd chip and board and just use ghetto ram setup till I can afford the 2nd tri-channel kit

LOL big dreaming, I'd probably spend that money on a bench setup so I can stop bothering my main rig.

Finally got my SR-2 up and running, now trying to OC the big beast with two X5690's. This is where I'm at now without any signal tweaking but I would like to lower my volts a bit.
Any hints on tweaks I should try to get my volts lower?

    System is WCG stable now

that is the exact setup I want to rock those 5690's look nice but it definately looks like you could drop some volts or raise clocks a bit and leave them there

what kind of memory are you running?

I'm still learning this board and CPU's, gonna try to settle at 4,2-4,4 depending on volts.
Running 12 GB of HyperX 2K CL 9 now, I've got 12GB Gskill 2k CL6 here but I'm already using 6GB in another setup.
