Definitely. I don't care if it's 5% faster or slower than GTX 580.

At GTX 580 we are talking about totally monstrous (and mostly unnecessary ) performance levels anyway.

If it's better priced, etc... I'd buy it instead of a GTX 580. If it's not, I'll get a GTX 580 - that simple

Yes indeed. I was looking at buying the GTX 470 or 6870 last month or two, 20% above that level of performance for hopefully <£250 would be nice

Who knows. If it is, AA/AF performance looks promising. But of course that depends on if you believe it is real and AMD slides reflect reality.

Yeah, it's Charlie, but you'd think if anyone would know something about an ATI part a few days before launch, it would be him.

Power Throttling engaging, with the current driver giving no control over it?

sure hope this is all just smoke bombs... or for about the same price one could have bought 2 5850's 15 months ago and still have faster performance than a 6970 :p

edit: after seeing this 5850 trifire review with that insane scaling think I might try to get another 5850 2gb I'm eying to see if it drops in price with the 69x0 release

I think where the card might show real promise in directx 11 games and more heavily tesselated games. For directx 9 games, I don't see why it should have any real prowess over a 5870 considering it has less shaders. Although if the 15% faster slide is true, it likely slower because marketing slides are always inflated. I think we can be certain if the quantities of the 6970 are good at launch, the extra development time was for drivers.

We see these retailer gouging right before every launch. I wouldn't put much stock in those prices.

For once I am looking forward to the reviews from hardware review sites.... too many questions such as the drivers used and if Power Throttling is enabled.

How useful of a feature can any power throttling implementation be if in the end its gimping performance of a high end card to any degree.

I can understand a driver issue but not something related power throttling, should be labeled performance throttling if it creates such an issue on a desktop gpu.
