Haha! That's a very good question. You know... I don't know! I am curious about that though.

You know what I would do if you are only using 2 cards? Just hook up the 2 cards and let the 3rd slot hang there unless it would provide interference...

You can if you really wanted to, cut off the bottom on a Tri SLI bridge and have it still work. They way they are connected is as follows:

As you can see if you cut it just below the middle tabs you'll still have one functional bridge, and that's all you need for 2 way SLI.
    Core i7 3770K
    EVGA GTX780 + Surround
    EVGA GTX670
    EVGA Z77 FTW
    8GB (2x4GB) G.Skill 1600Mhz DDR3
    Ultra X3 1000w PSU PSU
    Windows 7 Pro 64bit
    Thermaltake Xaser VI

Just a quick question, are the old SLI Bridges from the 8800 series the same as the new onec?

Just wondering coz i will be getting my 580s next week and they don't include a SLI bridge...

    @ jadawgis732, no problem

@ mp3, yes the bridges are the same they haven't changed, so your old SLI bridge will work fine.
