He didn't say they produced the best single card, he said if performance is close (like it always is), and if the price is nice (i.e. undercut) then AMD win again.
We'll see who wins this round...

As a smart nvidiot i personally hope 6970 is a much faster single gpu card then GTX 580 , that might result in Jen-Hsun Huang hurt ego and he would rush the release of Keplar![]()

So I'm guessing the 6970 will have 6870 crossfireX performance
so there is no need for dual crossfireX ports. LOL jkjk

competition is much more than just who has the biggest card, thats why we have prices.
in performance per dollar who wins
in performance per watt who wins
in performance per mm2 who wins
in performance for a single PCie slot who wins
in performance for maximum gpus in a single computer who wins
????
just cause a 580 is faster than a 5870 does not mean i wouldnt buy a 6850.
so i think what your trying to say is who built the biggest hottest and most expensive card this round. which does not mean they "won" at 40nm, cause im pretty sure with fermi being 6 months late, no real mid range competition for almost a year, and we just now get the full real deal, i think nvidia more than failed 40nm which cause the rest of the 40nm owners to have overpriced AMD cards for the first half of 2010

Thanks
One can not say who wins a round
it is the one who is fastest?
it is he who consumes the least power?
it is the one that is cheapest?
I just know that speed requires power and costs money
a 6850 is cheaper and uses less power than a 6870, so is the 6850 the best card?

Why don't you just put E30M3 on your ignore list and everyone will live happily ever after?
Notice any grammar or spelling mistakes? Feel free to correct me! Thanks
^ I agree
And you are shooting blanks, HD5870 was nr. 1 for what, 8 months, and suddenly it's not the fastest GPU for these 8 months because GTX480 was intended to compete with it, gezuz, great logic...
ATI/AMD had the crown for so long that they fell asleep, HD6970/6950 should have been released weeks ago, and be faster by a substancial margin compared to the 580, seems everyone in this position always make this mistake..
I for one will wait untill 6970/50 shows up before I decide what my next GPU will be...

What say you about 5970? It is the fastest card, and it has been the fastest card for a full year, after it was released Nvidia brought the 400s and then the 500s but still the top-of-the-line 500 isn't as fast as AMD's 1 year old card.
I mean, if it's about performance AND price AND power, AMD has been annihilating Nvidia for quite some time. But even if it's just performance, AMD's been on top for quite a while again. So what is your criteria, exactly?
It never was meant to compete with the GTX480. Don't come up with some random fud to make your arguments. Guess you never even read articles like http://www.anandtech.com/show/2937/4.
I can also tell you from an ex friend who was a very reliable source (who sadly passed away AKA CJ) that the 5970 was made purely to defeat a fully working GTX480 (which actually came out as a GTX580, because Fermi failed and guess what: even with the performance increase over just a full 512 sharders, it still lost that game which made the 5970 a 100% success for AMD) and that their next generation would be taking care of taking the crown with a single GPU. Sadly 32nm got cancelled, so they would now try that on 40nm with a bigger die-size instead of beating it with a cheap card (again!). If you think that AMD's plans were to compete with a 512 shader GTX480 with the 5870....![]()
