AHAHA... my friend, your bias is funny, I'm sorry. There are no cards in stock -> AMD has nothing to worry about because people can't buy cards. There are cards in stock -> AMD has nothing to worry about because the fact that there are cards available means nobody is buying them?
You remind me of a SKYMTL post, at that time I had laughed thinking nobody would actually say such a thing, but here you are, saying the exact same thing.

So it is none of Amds interest to leak early numbers and give nvidia more time to adjust their chip.
Secondly, how many gtx580 will nvidia sell before Cayman is out? Hundreds of thousands? duzens of thousands? I for one think it cant be more than a few thousand considering their price range, so it is not going to hurt their sales significantly to keep quiet. plus that way you don't run the risk of overhyping your product with an "are you ready?" campaign.
PS: after reading all the posts on the latest discussion one can resume all the responses in two manners:
-Nvidia customer's pov: Amd pr sucks for not leaking early benchmaraks so Nvidia can lower prices and I can buy my gtx580 cheaper...
-Amd customer's pov: Amd is doing right cause they got an awesome chip and they don't want nvidia to find out till launch date plus I don't mind waiting cause I'll be buying Cayman anyway it comes out.

AMD almost never leak benchmarks before they officially launch a new product. If some website gets the HW earlier and without NDA publishes numbers,AMD usually play along.AMD did allow ,for example, that reviewers come to their perf. labs and preview one of the upcoming Fusion designs, but Ontario/Zacate started to ship to OEMs around that time,so it's almost as good as launched.
Personally, I just hope it comes out before time to build that system for a friend... If it's not, then I have no choice but to ignore it's existence.
A lot of people were just hoping it would be out in time for the holiday shopping season. Kind of hard to have it on your wish-list if it won't be available in time, yanno?![]()
IMHO
If amd had a single card faster then the 580 for cheaper the benches would be out.(to maybe cut some 580 sales)
They have there bread an butter cards out for the holiday season so it does not make much differance.

Why do people always look at what's at the tip of their nose? So what if nVidia steals 1 month of sales from their 580? If AMD would release data 1 month earlier, that would give nVidia 1 month time to prepare a counter...which could be way more devastating than a single mere month of low stock 580 sales.

If there is any truth to this there is hope Caymen will have a similar launch price as the 5870. I paid 440cnd for mine launch week and I would love to see AMD continue that pricing trend again (ie slightly slower performance but at a better cost / performance ratio ) I'd predict 6850 CF like performance as a rough guess.
All that said would 1792 make sense for the 6950 with 1920 still being the 6970? I'm thinking yes...

Cumon that pczilla post has no links no sources or any tipe of objective information to back that claim up, its just a sentence written in a forum and if anything is a classic troll attempt.

dual engine 14/14 (28SMID)... they have no place for make 15/15 ?
Look more like the 6950 ... ( is AMD still send disabled parts core to tester ? )
In general the xx50 have 2 SMID less of the xx70 ( 5850-5870 )... So this pull the 6950 @1536SP ( it's why i had some concern about this 6950/6970 and 4SMID difference, this was not logic ) ... or it can be 6970 with 2SIMD disabled and so with 6950 SP's.. ( 28SIMD and 30 for the 6970)
anyway 448ALU, this is 40% more ALU of the Cypress 320ALU .... this + more texture unit + better ROPS, faster memory access, dual GPE's, etc etc...
Pushing 40% more ALU on same 40nm process is allready a big thing.

Argh my blood is frickin boiling every time I see stupid demo-benchmarks like 3DMark getting hyped, even though it is proven over and over that they do not correlate to the relative performance of real games! All this does is that driver developer resources are wasted which would be spent on the actual games!
WHAT IN HELL IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE!?!![]()
No you don't quite understand, i'm saying that AMD doesn't have to worry because worldwide sales of the 580 aren't apparently an issue. America isn't the only place you look at to see how the market works as a whole.
Some places in Europe and Asia don't have any stock, some do but they're apparently not in high quantities. Now, if demand were that high to keep cards out of stock, why wouldn't those other places with limited quantity sell out?
Now most places in America have cards, so the issue is this. If America's got that supply and supply is high enough for so many types of cards, why don't other countries have cards, esp. if demand is so high that they're selling out there and not in America? On the other hand, if supply isn't high, then these cards should be closer to selling out across the board.
So the overall issue is that there's no gain for AMD to reveal their hand right now. You reveal your hand, and Nvidia drops their prices, spurring sales of cards that other people would not buy. Or, you reveal your hand, and the 580 looks like an even better buy and people start buying the cards.
AMD gains nothing from either of those choices.
Sorry if some 580 fans can't afford their new toys and need AMD to drop prices
If you guys can actually read Chinese, you'd understand that online translators are terrible for Chinese
The first line saying that after respinning/doing silicon... err what? How can they respin this close to launch?
Then lines about performance... Chinese is tricky but an english of translation of "not 580" can mean "580 cant" etc.
