Dont get me wrong the Giga is a great board especially at the price & used about 4~4.2GHz im sure it'll run forever but that scorching aint good. My Giga is a v2 maybe it has a later x58 i dont know maybe its a v2 thing. I heard the vtt droops bad on the Giga havent tested it but the DFI runs way less vtt for way more uncore.

I've ran my D0's at 4.4Ghz at 1.425V and 4.5Ghz and 1.50V 24/7 on two Giga boards, UD4P and UD7 for quite a long time and i've never seen any scorch marks on any of my chips. You sure it's a scorch mark and not some oily stuff ie thermal paste or somethin?

I'm sure & its on 3 chips 2 look like the picture & one looks 3 times as bad but still works great. The board is a UD3 V2 BTW.

What's the vcore needed for that Sandy to do five gees with HT on? Heat doesn't seem to be limiting factor from what i can see.

    C_N,

I see, that sucks man be careful

Wow that sandybridge is nice! Why blur the bclk and then include the ram speed and ram mulitplier though? I mean assuming it's reporting correctly we can see it's 133 :P Can't wait to get one of those.

as far as gigabyte pushing more current goes, dynamic current step is 100 amps from 45 to 1.45 just fro the cores, then you have 35 more amps for uncore, well that comes to a whopping 180 amps, after the dynamic current step the voltage droops, these numbers are from VRD 11.1 spec which define vdroop and well it explains how lower voltage and higher current is how these chips were designed. Of course gigabyte probably runs out of spec, right... I have never seen those marks on my cpus nor anyone else.

I'm still trying to get to the bottom of my issue & at the moment im leaning towards PSU rather than board. I just noticed yesterday that the 12v line is running 13v so maybe this is compounding the situation on the Giga.

Its just strange that I have run lots of chips on lots of boards with the same PSU & the only board that marks the chips is the UD3 Rev 2.

aim way lower , was your sample also limited to 50X multi Chrisch ?
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

    [QUOTE=Chri$ch;4635098]only a short test....

Chri$ch, are you running the latest Linpack 10.3? Seems your running on just SSE no AVX. Would hope to see 130GFlops with that setup at 5GHz.

OT: I've just updated the distributive of LinX with the updated libraries (10.2.6.015 -> 10.3.0.003) in the OP.

Ok, I just completed a Linx run (20) with updated Linpack libraries dated:
Monday September 27, 2010. The Gflops went down compared to IBT. Disregard the clockspeed and multiplier becaues I have C States and Speedstep enabled. The actual clockspeed is 158.51 x 29 = 4596.96 ghz. I am going to try lowering the multiplier and use a higher blck.

MB: Rampage 3 Extreme 1102 bios

    Voltages:

CPU Load Line Calibration set to Auto
    QPI Load Line Calibration disabled

Vcore: 1.34375 actual reading 1.336 with ROG
CPU PLL: Auto actual reading 1.812 with ROG
VTT: Auto actual reading 1.330 with ROG
DRAM: 1.64 actual reading 1.641 with ROG
