    Looks fine to me.

I've just purchased a new Maximus Formula (and of course I bios flashed it) so I'll be back around here for a bit.

I think you need to get control of the case temp

    yours
    Motherboard 41 °C (106 °F)

    vs

    mine

    Motherboard 30 °C (86 °F)

If you reapply AS5 to your CPU I have the most success with one dot of AS5 in the middle of the CPU. Clean CPU and Cooler with Alcohol.

You are right about my motherboard temps. I may have to get another case or more fans...

For the price of that case I would go with COOLER MASTER HAF 932.. It's got better drive management.

What's the max allowable temp on the NB for this board? I bumped mine up to 1.62 and everything's stable, but it's running @ 49C w/ linpack w/ a 27C/81F room temp.

I've read that above 50c gets unstable. How long you running linpack? What the rest of your settings. If your stable there try lowering one or two spots and test it again and again. Lower Voltage and Temp the better.

Here's where I'm at after an hour of browsing...

I'm using http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=197835 and the instructions, "However, most people can use "Standard" mode as it should be sufficient." However, a friend just sent me this info...

Linpack... i would use Linx, its Linpack base with a nice GUI

    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=201670

use the problem size 25,000 or just set it to use ALL RAM. Warnring
though - this makes ur CPU burn and ur ssytem cry. I would deem a
system stable after 3-4 hours of this stuff. Gets bout 20*C hotter
than any other torture test out there. its my fav.

    Would that be better?

Hey all. I've started to have problems with this board. A few months back my computer would freeze at POST or the windows loading screen. I took out the RAM one by one (4x1GB DDR2-800 Crucial Ballistix) until I found the one that kept my computer from posting. So I RMA'ed it. Got my new stick back and all was fine for a few months. Now it started happening again. When I boot up in the morning my computer will freeze at 1 of 3 places. Other it will not POST at all (no beeps), it will beep once and freeze at the maximus logo screen, or it will freeze at the windows loading screen. Also the one time it locked up right when I saved & exited in BIOS. If I reboot a few times I can sometimes get into BIOS where I can reload my profile and save and exit and it will then boot up fine. The thing is, once I'm in Windows, it's 100% fine. I can play games/encode/etc all day without any issues. It's just that first bootup in the morning thats causing problems. I might try and update my BIOS revision since it's the version that came with it.

Anyone have any other ideas of what the problem might be?

Try resetting the BOIS via the reset button? I would go auto and just set your RAM Voltage.

Tried that. I can now only boot with 3 of the 4 sticks of RAM. If I put the 4th one in it just stops at the maximus formula logo screen. On the LCD Poster it reads USB Final when it stops. When I take out the 4th screen it boots right up... I've tried various voltage settings ranging from the default 2.00 (1.97 actual) all the way to 2.14 (2.21 actual). Also tried complete auto settings, setting the speed to DDR-757, looser timings, etc. Here's my voltage settings currently according to everest:

    CPU Core - 1.33V
    +3.3V - 3.23V
    +5V - 4.85V
    +12V - 11.98V
    +5V Standby - 4.90V
    FSB VTT - 1.34V
    NB Core - 1.41V
    SB Core - 1.07V
    South Bridge PLL - 1.52V
    DIMM - 2.16V
    DIMM VTT - 1.08V

Edit: Alright I upped the NB Core to 1.44V and now it booted with all 4 sticks of RAM in. I found another guy that had the exact same issue with nearly the same stuff I'm running here: http://forums.hexus.net/hexus-hardwa...l-problem.html

Yeah I'll do that if the problem comes back. So far with this new NB Core Voltage it seems to be working. I think maybe my NB degraded maybe a bit over the past 2-3 years and just needed a little more oomph to run all 4 sticks? Anyhow... we'll see...

Alright well my computer started to hang on the Starting Windows screen before the logo even popped up... Ran memtest86, no errors. Reloaded BIOS defaults, and it booted fine. So I restarted, reloaded my OC settings, and it booted fine.. Now for the last few days it sometimes boots into windows and sometimes doesn't. I'm getting sick of this randomness. Maybe it's the memory, but after running it flawless for the past 2 years and no errors through memtest86 I have no clue. I ordered some G.Skill 2x2 PC2-8500 today. If my computer still keeps having problems I'll just return it so I can rule out the memory as the problem. If thats the case, would it be the mobo thats dieing?

Could anyone dig up the link of how to recover from a bad bios flash after doing this? Killed my p5e doing this a while back and didn't have time to fix it!

I think you can just use the driver disk that came with the mb. Try booting from it.

It doesn't seem to work at all! I tried a pen drive with every combination of bios name I could try last night and the board would just turn on for about 30 seconds and then turn off! At one point with the pen drive began to flash after I went to start it for the second time but it still did nothing?

So when you turn on the computer it will turn off in about 30 seconds? Does it do that even if your doing nothing? Can you get into the bios screen? Sounds like you might be thermally shutting down (getting to hot). Tried resetting the BIOS CMOS? I would also try using only one stick of ram then the other. Maybe one is bad.

mine did the same thing when my crucial memory started going bad.. i had the 1066 ballistix.. 4x1
if i remember right it was listed as compatible when i built that computer and was later removed from the compatibility list..
i have always had problems with that memory from day 1.. i had to install a different set to boot from to get into bios to set up the voltages then install them.. after that it worked until i borked a oc or something. then i had to start over with the other set.. i got those to run pretty good even over there rated speeds but they started to dye.. i have 2 dead sticks, 1 that give errors and 1 still works.. i put them in the freezer and they worked again for a while.. now i do not use them. i have some reaper 1200 in there now and it boots up normal and does rated speeds..

Yep, it does the same if no pen drive is plugged in aswell I think! I think temps were ok, heatsink was warming up so there is contact but it wasn't getting too hot. I tested it on an open bench with one stick of ram aswell btw. Reset the cmos and tried the "hard reset" aswell to no avail!

Would you believe I had 4 sticks of unopened ballistix I had just gotten back from rma in my house and of all the ones to pick I used the 1066 I had... Think that could be it? Come to think of it the p5e died while using pc8500 in the first place I think :/

Just to clarify it stopped booting directly after a bios update, so number one suspect would still be a corrupt bios right?
