do you guys think this card will be well received by reviewers?
it seems clearly superior to a 5870, though idk if people are gonna bench it against 6870 crossfire or something.

Reviews should be cautious, given that AMD has two products that will soon launch around the same price point.

From early hints of apoppin and others I'm hoping for a nice 20-25% boost in games @ 2560x1600 over the 480 while running cooler/quieter... guess we'll see soon. A lot of the reception will depend on the pricing I suppose . Probably fairly reserved since we don't know what 6970's going to bring for sure yet.

    $579 @ microcenter, hopefully 499 online then:

They tried to buy it but weren't able to due to it not being in system yet.

I told ya there would be stock in the channels.

A review of a product can't be done on the basis of what might be. Rather, it needs to be based off of what's available at the time of review.

LOL, yeah but that's gonna destroy all AMD's "new generation".
Lets hope Cayman arrives in time, and can deliver what they promise, because otherwise this is not going too look good for AMD.

Why? If the GTX580 is ~20% above GTX480 it sure won't look as good but they could easily release a 6870X2 that would perform similarly (even though the 580 and 5970 already would be neck in neck it if those predictions are accurate).

Besides, it wouldn't make any sense for Cayman to be late and that this would come to light right now. When Barts launched it was obvious AMD intended to release Cayman in November. By that time, the cards should already be in production, at least the wafers would have to be. Well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see...

Does that mean GTX 460 SE or something else we don't know yet (GTX 560?)?

Then that 6870X2 should be here today, because reviewers are not going to wait for it tomorrow. This GTX580 is going to destroy those "thing" AMD has chosen to call a "new generation". they are going to look like worst than "old generation" tomorrow. AMD better do something. really fast.

I agree about Cayman, it better arrive in time, and it better deliver what they promise, because otherwise AMD will be in big trouble.

Wut, where were you when nvidia was in "ATI's current sticky situation?"

This "thing" that nvidia has called a "new generation" will see competition, hopefully within the 6 months that it took nvidia bring Fermi to the consumer table.

Wow look who finally came out of the unbiased closet.
Please if you have a 6970 and a 580 lying next do you do share some info for us and benchmarks.
I know this launch has gotten all of us excited but its definately also bringing out the fanboy in a lot of people.
You seem confident that your next purchase will wipe the floor with or "destroy" even Antilles and that certainlly nobody will wait two weeks to one month to compare products.
I, on the other hand, think that perhaps wishfully thinking you are.

I'm saying the numbers will be out tomorrow, and AMD better do something really fast, both for AMD fans like you (and him below) and for those nViida fans who want to get a good price on GTX580. You are not answering to my point. I never said nVidia did a good job in last round, so keep it to the point, please.

What "things"? Only "things" available to be compared with the 580 is Barts and they are not meant to compete, so how can something unknown look really bad?
