    with excellent driver support.

6970 likely will drop in price fast as it isnt fast enough, good for the consumer.
    On LP2, Hawk2 benchmark.... 100% confirmed

And Intel's LRB will come out in 2 weeks to offer 5x of GTX580 performance. Your claim is about as good.
No source, no proof, no base --> BS.

Edit: unless I massively miss your sarcasm, of course.

The important question is: Can a GTX580 beat a 5970?

Does it matter if a 5970 is more expensive?

Or will be EOL at this time (using the last in stocks for RMA )...

But let's imagine the 6970 have +- the perf of the 5970, what will you buy ? a dualgpu who have 14months, or a fresh new 6970?

i just came across this rumor... AMD Set to Introduce Radeon HD 7000 Southern Islands in Q2 2011

This latest development in the graphics card saga comes from a pretty shady website named, adequately enough, RumorPedia.net, that claims one source “close to AMD” told them Souther Islands GPU family will be released sometime in early 2011.
i know that it has nothing to do with cayman but i didn't think it deserves its own thread since it comes from some not so trust worthy sources

While a 28nm pipe cleaner might be possible in Q2, I don't think there's any doubt that SI will have to wait for at least H2 2011.

i think the word INTRODUCE is a good way to make us think its about a release, when really its about an announcement.

The only chance AMD has with beating Nvidia and its 580gtx kick ass ftw card is to do 28nm flawlessly but that wont happen.
AMD is scared, they know they are beaten by Nvidias new design, hell they cant even write a bios to 6970 or even have a driver or a card to sell!

AMD is well known as a budget oriented company, playing underdog that goes with a loss every quarter, how can they even compete in the same leque as Nvidia or Intel at all?

They cant, so they do the marketing BS, we do small chips with great watt/performance, meaning smaller chips more cash due to them are cheaper to produce but dont deliver enough performance for a xtremesystem forum reader as we buy the biggest bad ass cards and if they aint bad enough we spank them, up with whips, chains and overvoltage and a cousin we would sell for it to go a inch faster.

Would be more inclined to believe a 6770 28nm chip is likely.

Probably it's going to be a 4770 type card, to make sure everything goes well with the transition to 28nm.

It's not that AMD can't 'win' as you put it, it's that they've chosen a different route. This has brought commercial success in the last couple of years, and shook Nvidias strangle hold since the 8800 cards.

As for the comment about 'AMD being budget orientated', you will have to explain what that actually means. In my eyes budget means cheap for the masses. Seeing as AMD sell the most expensive consumer card for GPUs, and have expensive CPUs, you'll have to excuse my ignorance if I don't class them as purely budget orientated.

As for your last point, well that is purely flame bait/trolling. Extremsysytems could be said to be more about maxing different bits of kit, rather than sticking with the 'best'. it's all subjective what this site is about, although recently it's been about fanboy this vs that, which is being cracked down on.
