what amd allready showed playing alien vs predator isnt nice enough for you on a small compact device ... come on ...

onboard gpu or on cpu gpu are the same ... because they target low end devices ... but since the gpu is on the die its much simpler in packaging ... anyway .. amd wont have trouble keeping up with all of ati's intelectual property ....

And so the battle might be between intel (lacking Dx11 among other things) and AMD... if manufactures can give a gpu embedded in the cpu to save costs, well I don't really see Nvidia retaining any market share in that particular cluster

exactly ... and nvidia's lost shares .. would gladly be taken over by amd who could lower prices since they would have more shares ...

Lol @ the AMD power point slide style performance chart being used for nvidia.

numbers seem to indicate right around a 20% increase over 480

At least it starts from zero

    It's also 50% increase over HD 5870, that's quite a jump.

i didnt compare with that for a few reasons

    1) its not the real competitor for the 580, the 69xx would be (yet we dont have those numbers so i wont complain)
    2) some of those games are really heavy on tessellation so its looking like people are trying to make AMD look bad on purpose, which makes me question some of the settings or games chosen (im this hard on AMD when they do it too)
    3) the values are really all over the place while the 480 to 580 comparison is within a VERY CLOSE margin of error, so i feel confident in my assumption that a 580 will be 20% faster than a 480 in almost every case. while vs AMD is a per game basis

None of those games are heavy on tessellation. Only two are, and they are benchmarks, not games.

EVEN IF the games were (which none are), why would that matter?

"Looks like Nvidia is able to handle the vanilla DX11 spec faster than AMD can"

"That isn't fair, those results should be omitted"

its about the goal of the reviewer that is in question, not the hardware. we KNOW AMD would not put those in their slide presentations cause it would look bad. so the question is if they are trying it too.

and LP2 (Lost Planet 2) has tessellation btw, and it was looking like they went very heavy on it (that giant worm dragon thingy got like twice as fat and spiky, looks good, but the regular version looks like utter crap, lol)

I did it for one reason, to show, how much AMD needs to improve from their last generation.

50% is not unheard of, but considering they went a little backwards with 6850/6870, it might not be that easy to achieve.

There are a couple of bechmarks, but there's still a couple of newer games with gains over 70%. That might paint a bright future for NV, if this trend continues.

So what if it soundly beats 5870? I expect no less. I looks around 5970 performance which is great if true. I think 6970 will be very similar perf. Good good maybe this means high end for less than 400$

That slide isn't exactly showing 20% improvement on 480 IMHO. More like 15%. Bringing the card within HD5970 range.

This is why I check Techpowerup for reviews, they have a HUGE games list that they use for reviews, including old, current, and brand new games.

Too bad the gains in Crysis are so minimal.

I was hoping the new single gpus would be able to finally max it out.

AMD needs to improve? I'm sorry but the 5870 and the GTX480 are not direct competitors, let alone the GTX 580. Nvidia slotted their GTX 480 above the 5870 but below the 5970 and avoided a direct comparison/price war in the process.

Who is to say even the 69XX will be a direct competitor for the GTX 580, they could just slot in at different price points again.

What kind of % improvement over single 5870 does 6850 get in crossfire? Considering it will cost around 350$ it should be where 580 will be priced.

Crysis is already more or less able to be maxed out at resolutions 1200p and below on a single GTX 480. Above those resolutions however, you need to go multi.
