About cayman we should continue on its thread.
Would you please explain and QUOTE me on what you are accusing me for? Then I would learn from you, but otherwise. We need to respect each others idea and meanings, even if we don't agree. In this way we can all learn more about GPUs.

Cayman and 580 are very related, and a reference to it would make this discussion much more relevant and clear. If the wolf-pack can tolerate it, though, LOL.

We know 580 will come right at Cayman, and this timing means nVidia is confident about the card they have on hand.

We don't know that though, and Nvidia probably doesn't either. They very quickly lowered the price of the 460 and 470 when they realized that Barts would kill them if they kept the original pricing, so I don't think Nvidia is any wiser on what Cayman may/may not bring.

Anyone see these yet? I notice the pro GTX 580 fans seem to be slowly coming out in droves with each one of these leaks. Would be a damn shame to build up the hype and disappoint again like Fermi '09.
    http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=27204

I know its from Fudo but Hexus is reporting it
Lastly we have some of the first indications on pricing and release dates. Fudzilla is suggesting that the cards are already in production and will arrive before AMD's flagship Cayman GPUs, suggesting mid-November availability.
    highlight
Launching just ahead of the HD 6970 could be a huge boost to NVIDIA, especially if it can deliver on performance. The only sticking point may be the price, which the same source suggests will be around $499 (£390). This is significantly more than the cheapest GTX 480s and HD 5870s, and around the same price as two HD 6870s - though it's still a good deal cheaper than the dual-GPU HD 5970. Of course, this is likely to change, depending on the price and performance of the HD 6970.
Same graph already posted below but looks like Nordic also buying into the hype. Skip all the same regurgitated stuff already posted and they claim a November 20th release date.

We have more info about Cayman, and some is from AMD too, but I guess you know what I mean about speculations. Some people drag it a bit too far, and conclude about the balance between Cayman and 580 before we have seen any of them.

We need to see reviews, tests/benches before concluding which one would be better. Right now, all of us should try to be more clear what's speculation/guess, and what's fact. But facts are really scare, in both camps.

You do realize, that a good many of the people who do these reviews... and write these long technical articles... are the exact same expert people in these forums, some of which, you've argued with in the past. U understand this much, right?

So, who are you trying to fool?

GTX availability 580 at ~CES, until then vaporware and big talk by JHH. Paper launch could be possible during this year.

You have the right to mean that about the kill, but I mean that big price-drop indicates an aggressive nVidia that is ready to fight by all means in this round. The timing of 580 indicates the same aggression too. This aggressive moves indicates a confident nVidia with a good card (maybe several good cards later too) on hand.

Cayman has been delayed too, this indicates the lack of confidence (or maybe even problems) in AMD-camp. So I personally speculate that nVidia has the upper hand in this round. But we have to wait and see what they (both of them) can deliver at last.

I find it hard to believe that no one in China noticed a ton of GTX580's in production, and before Cayman, especially considering they only gave out info on the GTX 580 *after* everyone knew about Cayman's release date

    So either:

    a) Nvidia has been incredibly secretive at this time and is pulling the mother of all surprises
    b) Nvidia PR is in BS mode again, and we might see wood-screw editions
    c) GTX 580 isn't as big a change from the 480 as people think, and so it was easy to push into production

Wasn't this around the same time last year they were promising Fermi?

Considering 580 will be the first refresh there's little reason to believe that they wouldn't be able to bring something to market in a timely manner.

Good one. Thx for the link. Nordichardware seams to be inline with my speculations. it says:.
GeForce GTX 580 will most likely be the most powerful single-GPU graphcis card on the market in 2010.

but cayman is on amd's slide and we know that bart is real .. so cayman is as real as it can be .... gtx580 is wild speculation .... amd has an nda still on .. so that's why we dont know much more ... nvidia doesnt even have an official claim besides some here and there words that could mean anything ... so your proof vs actual facts .. wich is better??? you tell me

LOL, why do you guys get work up so much upon a "Lost Cause" situation ?

There is conflicting logic in GTX 580 leaked infos, if the chip bears so little improvements regarding execution unit amount, then how come it could be so blazing fast as many suggested ?

My problem is your disgustingly slimy way of posting where you keep trying to play it neutral, but in reality all you are trying to do is bring Cayman's granularity down to the GTX580's level. To top it off, as if you weren't satisfied with that you keep inundating us with statements meant to obfuscate the information that has already been released about Cayman to try and bring it down to rumour level.

Furthermore, you then keep reminding us to simply stop talking and not discuss anything and wait until benchmarks or more info (about the GTX 580) is out. So, ironically, me telling you not to tell us what to think or do is not the same as what you keep suggesting to us.

Your faux neutral face makes it even harder to stomach.

Oh btw, the leaked Vantage feature tests show that it is just 64 TMUs.

The respin of GF100 with drivers that "cheat" (they'll probably point AMD out for cheating and do the same) seems more likely than ever.

This feels too dejavu tbh. All this info about 580 strategically popping up at this point is a lot like last year's “Wait for our announcement of the announcement and whatever you do, dont buy amd till then.”
Lots of talk to keep their fans from crossing over to red but hard products only far later than promised.
It might have sucked for us consumers but for nvidia it worked. Spreading hype and fud keeps some people from buying amd and thats all they want right now. So no wonder they might be doing it again.

    I sincerely hope not though.

It should, this is how most video cards launches go, every year its the same thing, no different than r600 even, boy was that card hyped by its following.

People buy what they want and choose the brands they like, hardly any normal people pay attention to thing like new video card releases so much as care about the tidbits of info leading up to launch day other than folks on a tech forum. If you where to go out and ask your local family, friends or coworkers about any of the tech being discussed here they probably would not have a clue what you are talking about or why they should even care.

John Stewart and Stephen Colbert used that strategy for their "rally to restore sanity or fear"
they must've copied the gag from Nvidia

Easier maybe but leaks don't come from chip manufacturing usually, they come from board manufacturing and the 580 rumours so far suggest a new PCB/cooler.

Charlie says GTX 580 will come 8th November, on paper that is. The rest is pretty much the same old specs that have been tossed around, gf100b, 15-20% more performance, lower power consumption etc. It looks like 6970 might actually end up faster if they up the core size.
