Wow if those figures are real that Barts XT is THAT close to HD5870, I personally only always thought it would be only make sense if in best case scenario the Barts XT would be like slightly faster than HD5850 but this is more like slightly behind HD5870.

EDIT: on the other hand I didn't expect 1280 SPs either so I really hope that's correct info. Power consumption would make more sense then as well. Imagine Cayman XT with 1920 SPs if 1280 SPs can now perform close to the amount of 1600. :p

So either this site is trying to pull our leg or AMD has pulled our legs for a long time now by falsely let wrong specs float around to cause more ruckus once real specs gets leaked as a tactical marketing stunt that would be beneficial to see both how/where the stuff leaks from or to give wrong ideas to the competitor.

Hey BeepBeep2... I honestly appreciate all the number crunching you did earlier.

But if these #'s that cold2010 posted are accurate (and personally, they sound about right from all the rumors I've seen).
I'd still go with the 6870 over the 5850 as long as the prices are close (<$250)...

All these pages of uproar over the numbering scheme seems like minutia to me...
If Joe Public is stupid enough to pay and extra $200 for a Pre-Built with a 6870 compared to a 5850 then it's his own fault for not researching what he's buying, and quite honestly, he probably wouldn't notice the difference anyway...
If theres any ripoff blame to be placed in that case it would lye on the shoulders of the Pre-Build manufacturers and not AMD (IMHO)...

If I was already running a 58xx series card I seriously doubt the upgrade would be worth it.
But coming from a 4870, I would (and will) choose the 6870 over the 5850.
If for no other reason than the improved tesselation, lower power draw and the potential for driver/code tweaks to make the 68xx's perform even better...

We should all know next Friday, and if the price of the 5850 drops to ~$175 I may have to seriously reconsider my options...
Right now though, if the 6870 comes in under $250 it seems like the card of choice for me though...
