Just cuz they have a rather fast highend single GPU card doesn't mean they are doing well. There's so much more to it than performance alone. :p Nvidia is in a worse position than they've been for many many years.

Intel? Core i5-4670K @ 4.3 GHz | ASRock Extreme6 Z87 | G.Skill Sniper 2x8GB @ DDR4-1866 CL9 | Gigabyte GTX 970 OC Windforce 3x | Super Flower Titanium 1000W | ViewSonic VX2268wm 120Hz LCD | Phanteks PH-TC14PE | Logitech MX-518 | Win 7 x64 Professional | Samsung 850 EVO & 840 Pro SSDs
If all people would share opinions in an objective manner, the world would be a friendlier place
Regarding the GeForce line, their high end single GPU is only marginally faster than the high end ATI GPU.
But with Quadro vs. FirePro, there is absolutely no comparison. It's like 8800GTX vs. 2900XT, maybe even a larger gap.
The Quadro 5000 and 6000 absolutely decimate the FirePro V8800 and V9800. The Quadro 6000 is very expensive, but at its performance, you either pay up or go home.

a 2900xt vs 4850 showed almost no noticeable change. however tacking on heavy AA does still hurt the 2900 more than a 48xx
the gpu was just fine without AA when it first came out, and they did optimize it very well over time. i loved mine with a volt mod on water and 940mhz core 24/7
R580 does beat theout of any G71 based cards in todays games, even at times outperform the dualcard 7950 GTX, but for the unified shader era cards, the performance difference beetween competing cards is quite stable, even after sometime has passed by & driver matured. Standard X2900 XT is mostly slightly faster than 9600 GT, a bit slower than 8800 GT, until AA & AF are cranked up, then things will get ugly for the red corner.
But enough with the OOT, unless there's some new evidence forwarded, i think most peep agree that even TODAY, X2900 XT is still inferior overall against 8800 GTX.
Just watched the JHH GTC keynote. As expected, given the audience the focus was on HPC stuff. There were a couple volumetric and tessellation demos too but nothing that will show up in games anytime soon. There was a sneak peek of tessellation in H.A.W.X 2 (starting at 4:40) but the PC version is delayed to November so it'll be a while before we see benchmarks.

http://www.fudzilla.com/graphics/ite...-comes-in-40nmNvidia is working on a mid-life kicker chip, something that will replace Fermi and something that will have to deal with the competition until Kepler comes at 28nm.
The new chip is designed to fight the Radeon HD 6000 series and of course Nvidia thinks that it has a clear win, and we quite sure ATI thinks the same.
We don’t really know as all the information we are gathering are contradictory. We do believe that Nvidia's kicker comes after Radeon HD 6000 launch, but there is a big chance that you'll see this new Fermi, let’s call it Fermi 1.5 even in late 2010.

I'd bet more on Q1/Q2 for the mid-life crysis. Fun times ahead!

If this pans out we're certainly going to have some interesting times ahead.

OMFG what a douche!!!! if the CEO of a company where I have money invested did this sorta stunt in public... I'd try to put him in jail... or even worse. I'd give him a GTX480 for x-mas with a note saying
"I hope this new heater will keep your mansion warm during the winter months, I know it doesn't look like much, but its heating potential is beyond human comprehension"
