Congrats to both of you
CT
Looks like you've found a sweet-spot
My score varies by a few 100 points, it doesn't really matter the number of drives or what drives I use.
-
Hardware:
To Messrs CT and Dinos - Much congratulations gentlemen!
Significant time and effort goes into runs like these - job well done both of you.
I'm hearing the pitter/patter of little feet behind me - I suspect my time at the top of the leader board may be coming to a close.
When CT gets his 980 - he will see a VERY nice increase!![]()
@ Mr Anvil - on your 1880/4Gb - what number of drives are you finding is optimum now?
Steve
The last few runs have been using 4R0 X25-Es or 3R0 C300 64.
I don't have the time to tweak or play with settings that much, too much to do at work right now.

Hardware:
Its amazing that both you and hlon are getting such great scores on such few drives!
1880 magic sauce
What about Acronis recognizing the 1880?
I'm getting a few of these controllers and Acronis MUST recognize them!
Using the latest version here. I know in the past if you could not see your controller and provide Acronis with info they can supply you with an ISO to build bootable media with the drivers slipstreamed...
I wonder in the future if they will have even larger ram support? Using SODIMM sockets one could have four chips for 16GB DDR3 on the board and that should not be too expensive. Hehe could you imagine a dual slot storage controller the size of a GTX480? Probably need a PCI-E power connector too! These will rock with a rack full of dual ported Pliants.

and some $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to buy the ECC parity dimms.. imagine that the dimm cost ~400$ for 4G imagine the 16GB how much will cost!!
According 4gb ram modules:
Tekram gets the wanted Unigen goodies, fresh delivery from Areca Taiwan per week @$230. Ordered.![]()
$257 + shipping - drop ship?
still overpriced!
http://www.provantage.com/areca-tech...b~7AREC03W.htm
SteveRo- I ordered the ram and controller almost two weeks ago from provantage. Didn't see anything change as of yesterday, so I called and they stated an early October ETA.I cancelled the order.
Went with Newegg for the controller and Tekram for the 4GB stick.
By the way: if anyone wants the 2GB stick, you can get it directly from Kingston for $60 or less.

My 1880ix-12 arrived yesterday! It looks like they had actually decided to grab me a card sans wire-jumps rather than send me two, which is kind of sad but nothing I can complain about. I wonder whether it's still an R&D version and whether the BBU header does work. Now to start getting in some SSD's and seeing what I can do with it!
I wonder how long it will be until we see a 2208-based Areca come out. Hopefully Areca will be able to get a new card out a bit faster now that they have had some experience with LSI. I should probably look into that before I commit to paying an outrageous amount of money for a 4GB memory module...
Those that have an 1880ix-12 - what is the revision number of your card? Mine says "Revision B" under the memory stick and I'm curious where that falls on the range and what the differences might be.
Dual CCIE (Route\Switch and Security) at your disposal. Have a Cisco-related or other network question? My PM box is always open.
Xtreme Network:
- Cisco 3560X-24P PoE Switch
- Cisco ASA 5505 Firewall
- Cisco 4402 Wireless LAN Controller
- Cisco 3502i Access Point
awesome, the memory is only around 250 now i think
i will check my rev number to tonght for you.

I've only had an hour or so to play, but the initial results look pretty good.

The Areca BBU which already on the market sins the beginning, is the Areca ARC-6120 (officially model name ARC-6120BA-T112) is working on ALL Areca controllers also on the ARC-1880 models
A NEW Areca BBU ARC-6120BA-T113 is only compatible with the Areca ARC-1880ix-12/16/24 ports controllers to keep the 4GB memory longer in cache in case of power outage...
Mmm, strange...!! For Europe I always look at the official distributor which has all Areca stuff and alway's as first the newest Areca models on stock, http://www.webconnexxion.com/raid/index.php?cPath=154.
And there are the ARC-1880ix-12 ports listed, incuded the ARC-1880ixl-8 and ARC-1880ixl-12 (Small Profile model)
Yes, they told me there was a production problem due some parts aren't enough available for production..Arghhhhhh!!

In addition to the SCSIport driver, Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and later versions provide Storport, a storage port driver that is especially suitable for use with high-performance buses, such as fibre channel buses, and RAID adapters.
There are several advantages to using Storport rather than the SCSIport driver:
http://ask.adaptec.com/scripts/adapt...72&p_topview=1
I've read that article, still, scsiport does bring more iops at very high QDs.
I've been using storport lately, not that much of a difference at normal QDs.
