Long time reader of this thread, just now trying to maximize my system. Here's a rundown:
Core i7 930
2 x Mushkin Ridgeback 3x2gB 998826 PC3 12800 DDR3 1600 sets (default timings 6-8-6-24-2N, 1.65V)
R3E obviously
I've placed my intended overclock into the template below (well hopefully, never used something like that on a forum before, took it by quoting someone else's post). Basically, I cannot get LINX stable at anywhere near my targeted RAM frequency. I've passed Memtest at this frequency and default timings, I know my BCLK can go up to 220 with less voltage than this, but I just cannot figure out how to get stable once I bring up dram frequency. I'll be honest and say I have only a rudimentary understanding of what each of the voltages does. So I could use some help fine tuning. My goals are to hit 4-4.3 Ghz with 1600-1800 Ram at no worse than 8 cas, but I have no idea if im just being overly optimistic there.
Just flashed with 1005 yesterday as well.

@Aidic
Hi! Here are some changes I made for you to try:
Those are only ones I changed.Code:>CPU Configuration---------------------------- C1E Support [Enabled] Intel(R) C-STATE Tech [Enabled] C State package limit setting [Auto] C1 Auto Demotion [Enabled] C3 Auto Demotion [Enabled] ---------------------------------------------- UCLK Frequency [3200-3600] ------------ Extreme Engine Digi+ ------------ CPU PWM Frequency [Auto] QPI/DRAM Core Voltage 1.409 [1.30-1.35] DRAM Bus Voltage 1.707 [1.65] IOH Voltage 1.349 [Auto-1.2-1.25]
I think your main problem was trying to run UnCore @ 4GHz with too little voltage. Yes, 1.4 is usually too low for 4GHz UnCore. My Xeon W3540 needs 1.4125V for it.
Also, there is usually no need to raise RAM voltage if not OC'ing it. Sometimes not even then.
IOH voltage of 1.35 is needed only when trying to break 8000MHz QPI wall and find max BCLK.

I'm testing a Xeon E5640 (quad 32nm) and can not boot with the ram @ 2000, tested several uncor (3000-4000) and different voltage vQPI, I also tried leaving everything to AUTO
just putting the frequency manually RAM, and nothing to do
it sucks at boot, the Qled red CPU flashes and that of the DRAM is fixed
there with the ram to 1600 when it boot, over the 1600 is impossible
that's me doing something wrong, where the Xeon can not boot with a ram over 1600?
I tested with bios 0011 and 1005
thank you very much![]()

Thanks for the quick reply donmarkoni. I have changed my settings to match your suggestions, but I had to bump up some of the voltages. I forgot to mention I am running 2 GTX 470's, so I read somewhere I needed more IOH than what you recommended. Im still not Linx stable, but I cannot get the computer to crash outside of Linx. Im wondering, could a bsod cause my copy of linx to crap out? Just asking a question there, still learning about this board, this is only my 3rd build, and only i7 build.
One step closer to being done this marathon build
Here is my AC Kryos XT installed.

I was wondering when you were going to post pics. Man that setup looks beautiful you've done a excellent job with it
BTW never seen that kind of waterblock before...is it a modified Swiftech (because of the XT in the name)? Very nice and clean though regardless, and obviously very high quality![]()

Thank youI really am looking forward to finishing this build, but my 800D build ran into some issues so this one is being pushed back a few weeks. Hope it will be complete in Oct.
Here is some testing on the Kryos by Skinnee

They talk alittle smack about the mount, but I love it. Also the beefiest backplate I have seen. All around wonderful block from build perspective. Need to test performance, and I will be using Indigo Extreme on final mount so I should get great temps![]()

AC have revised the mount. It has been adapted after the numerous complaints by the reviewers... Could you take a picture of the back ?
My sample had issues with a mosfet on the REX III backside. I had to cut the rubber, otherwise it was putting a lot of pressure on it. Last but not least due to the tickness of the backplate and rubber combo, my board could not be 100% screwed down in my Lian Li case... I had to swap the screws to get it properly mounted... (darn still need to get the review done :p)

Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved
Remark : They call me Pro AsusSaaya yupp, I agree

Picture of the back of the block or the backplate? If it is the block, it may take awhile. This build is in "no rush" mode almost permanently LOL I have the block mounted with MX-3 and it will stay mounted until I get time to test everything, then I can remove it and then I will do my final mount with Indigo Extreme. If it is the backplate I will take one tomorrow for sure.
I ended up not using the rubber gasket. If I did, the bolts I were sent would not be long enough unless I cut out the space for the Intel socket backplate. Not a big deal, just weird... I found that with the standoff sent with the block the need for the gasket to be very little if any. I think it may be for 775 mounting more than anything.
ThanksI hope it turns out like I have in my head

Just tested my ram on this board for the 1st time today, i have 2 sets of corsair dominator gt:
1. Corsair Dominator GT 3x2GB 1600mhz 7-7-7-20
2. Corsair Dominator GT 3x2GB 2000mhz 8-9-8-24
The 1600mhz set runs like a dream on the R3E, it runs 1900mhz 7-7-6-18 without any problems, im sure it can do better but im still testing.
But the 2000mhz set won't even run the SPD settingsdoes anyone know why this is, am i doing something wrong? which settings should i try?
