    Thank you for your help!

I'm trying to trace a leak in the cars liquid cooling system. It only contains water (per now, but in the winter it should obviously contain antifreeze). Is there really a point in filtering it? The water quality doesn't really matter, for the sake of the argument I could fill it with Coke.

    What about this flashlight?

Have you tried a UV flashlight in the $5-15 class which you could recommend?

The norma UV flash light ive had a look at all have UV leds. So if you go back to my first posts youll see the results i got how ever you need to be close with a UV flash light to see the results in day light. your better off with a black light of the cold cathod type but i presume there are more expensive.

If how ever you fancy saving quite a few buks order some UV leds and Build your own for a few £. a 9V battery and say 12 Leds next to each other would make a strong UV light.

If a cold cathode is better, would it work to just take a usual UV cold cathode from a computer and hook it up to a 12-v battery? Like this one for example: http://www1.acryan.com/_lights/CCFL.shtml

If you're comparing them by price, then a LED strip is better. I can get a 60cm LED strip for about 14 EUR, the same price of a Quad set of CCFL. From what I've seen the 60cm LED strip is stronger than most CCFL's.

Yes it works if you have them hooked up to the inverter or what it's called. Had to 30cm blue cathodes inn my car along time ago on 12v. No problem

Remember that the purpose of this UV light is to detect a leak in a cars cooling system. I don't think a LED strip would do the job, but a cold UV cathode probably could if it doesn't emit much blue light. Is there something just as good as a CCFL in the form of a flashlight? A "blacklight" is best, as it emits less visible light so spotting the leak is going to be easier.

erm i should not rearly show this But some mates of mine went a bit mad with my dyes and did this to there faces before they went partying. I got loads of order of peeps from the party but i turned them all down.

thats with pure UV clear Blue i do not recommend doing this how ever i can safely say thev done it more than once with out any problems.

I defo do not recommend using any other dyes as these will stain your skin.

(goto add i think this is going way off water cooling and maybe a new thread needs creating else ware)

That is quite awesome. I'm going to decorate a partyvan with UV stuff. UV pint and shot glasses, UV markers all over the place etc. You wouldn't know a cheap 12v blacklight that would to the job? I've been looking at these:

I realize that this is a bit off topic, but still I don't think there is any better place for it.

The flashlight from ledshoppe works good. It's a little too much blue light to be honest, but I guess it's always expected from LEDs. The UV Powder Dye (fluoriscein) also works great, but I haven't used in for leak-testing. I guess it would do a good job.

Thats good to hear since im being accused on another site by some idiot called RedRaider (with little or no intelligence and a foul mouth) of trying to rip him of cos the nugget parcel got caught up in customs and then accused me of trying to rip him off.

There should be enough powder there to do quite a few tests for leak testing.

I hope things go well for you .

Hmm seemingly doing not much looking around RedRaider is a complete ass (the amount of sites talking about his attitude is amazing) and likes to try and slander people for no good reason. Seemingly his web site is just a front for his loss of ego and his very small mindedness. Avoid at all costs this guy hes a complete idiot.

Considering doing him for slander and ive got all the logs of him. I have his full name , address, telephone and email and ip address. might even get his site shut down for slander.

teach the little a lesson he wont soon forget.
