umm yes. here is ram specifics fellas...they pointed me at two different sets of ram:

    Hi,

You can select the attachment spec.
You can also use the following DIMM which has tested on our side.
Unigen memory module UG51T7200N8DR-8CC. it is DDR2-800 4GB ECC reg.

    Regards
    Billion Wu
the spec they attached is this model number: Kingston
    KVR800D2D8P6/4G
    4GB 512M x 72-Bit DDR2-800
    CL6 Registered w/Parity 240-Pin DIMM

the second seems easier to find. i have yet to find aplace where the unigen is for sale.
@nizzen that 4k @QD1 is exactly what i have been looking for, amazing!
taking a day off work thursday for this one......

@doublepost....now that i have the spec on the kingston i ordered this from an online retailer, but it seems that it doesn't match the specs of what the pdf shows....any ideas fellas? it shows that it is a 9 chip config on the PDF, yet in the picture from the site i bought it at there are many more chips, confusing.

the spec in the PDF states: eighteen 256M x 8-bit DDR2-800 SDRAM in FBGA packages
yet in the one i bought it is listed as: 36c 256x4 Registered ECC DDR2-800 DIMM.
I am wondering if the 256x8 vs. 256x4 will make a difference?

    http://www.memoryx.net/bvj.html

can anyone find a solid link to something that looks like the pdf file? i am wondering if the chip i have purchased is listed incorrectly....

How is that possible? About 19,500 4KB 1QD random read IOPS means the access time is less than 0.051ms, but AS SSD is showing 0.14? Or is the 4KB sequential?

cache? but then that would be affecting the sequential as well...I know that tilt with his 9260 on a server mobo was getting .05 access time, seen it with my own eyes via msn video chat.

It's 4KB random, AS SSD measures access time @ 512B

We need to see some more benchmarks using iometer

So how come 4KB random reads 3 times faster than 512B? 8 times more data in 1/3rd the time?

    One_Hertz,

That's why we need some iometer testing, AS SSD isn't perfect.

Nizzen posted a quick iometer run at the Norwegian forum, single C300 128GB -> 4KB QD64 ~73' iops, testfile 1GB (same as cache)

I've just browsed the iometer result file from Nizzen, random read 512B-128KB QD1-64 exp2

It looks great, a few disturbing drops in performance at high QD on some block sizes.
I'm not sure what drives he's been using, how many drives or the size of the testfile. (I expect 1GB testfile)

    Access time 0.02 4KB QD1

Well, it's up to Nizzen to make this publicly available, it's well past midnight here so I expect it will be tomorrow.

I expect some graphs would be of interest

yes the graphs would be very interesting....

I asked the question if a sata only version would be made to replace the 1231 controller.....

    Hi,

No, ARC-1880ix can support 6Gb/s SATA and SAS.
You can use the ARC-1880ix-12 to replace ARC-1231Ml.

    Regards
    Billion Wu
so they, like others, will no longer make sata only cards. interesting. as i have been saying for a long time, the latency issues with sas/sata protocol tunneling have been overcome.

    @ all

I see the 1880 supports volumes and drives > 2TB
    The 1261ML only volumes > 2TB?

    Who can ask the areca-suport?
My english (speaking) is very bad

    8 drives

Should be an interesting compare to mbreslins 9260 w/ 8xC300 256.

I expect you'll be able to increase your PCMV score quite a bit

Is it even worth it to get anything with more ports than the ARC-1880-ix-12 with SAS expanders so prevalent now?

    August 27th these should drop?

How many users are using a 1880?

    1880 + Samsung F3 EcoGreen 2TB good or bad?

    Not that many yet.

That will change during the next few weeks.

Don't know about the Samsung EcoGreen, Samsung drives usually work on raid controllers from what I've heard.
    I've got 4x F3s running on a PERC 6/i, no issues yet.

So I am torn between the 1880ix-12 and 1880ix-16, I read somewhere that Areca uses "less" than stellar SAS expanders on board (avs forum?) and its best to get as few ports as possible and rely on HP sas expanders or similar. But really is there a reason to get more than the 12 port with SAS expanders so readily available?
