    NVidia Physics card not seen...

    Hey all,

A problem with the Asus M4A89GT/USB3 I have is that it does not recognize an Nvidia 9600GT card I have installed in the second PCIe slot for Physics. I have an HD 5850 in the primary slot and the Nvidia in the second slot. Windows does not recognize the 9600GT in this setup. If I swap them, I can see both cards in Windows. This setup does not work since I want the primary to be the HD 5850.

Has anyone else had this problem or know of any resolutions? Besides getting a different board? Other forums state it is a BIOS issue, and that certainly seems plausible that a BIOS fix should correct it. I have sent the issue to ASUS support for help, but they have pretty much ignored me, told me it couldn't work because of the AMD chipset, or told me to RMA the board.

You are not alone with this problem. The official ASUS forum is full of people with two graphics cards not beeing able to use them.
    http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?...age=4&count=40

With the beta BIOSses posted here it might be possible to run two Nvidia cards, but an ATI/Nvidia combination seems to be only possible if ATI sits in the second slot :-(
I really hope for an official BIOS fixing all this. I bought the board because of the two PCI-E slots for GPUs and folding@home (no need for SLI there)

I will have you a BIOS later today that solves this issue and also addresses some of the C1E/CnQ problems in the last Beta.

Tried out the 1605 M4A89GTD Pro/USB3 BIOS, hoping it might solve my 2 nvidia card problem (1gfx/1phx in theory), but the second card still goes unrecognized.

Was this supposed to be addressed in 1605, or just the mixed amd/nvidia setup?

It can't be as bad as 1605 thats for sure!!!

    Thanks Asus -

Priming now on 1606 as I type this!

Seems more stable and reliable than the last one and for the first time EVER - this bios has correctly picked up ALL my RAM settings (including correct trc)- yay
PC Probe reported various jumps in Vcore on 1605 - whereas on this one it seems more stable like the older BIOS's
Also noted that the FSB stays more around the 200Mhz mark instead of jumping slightly.

So far tis all good - Will report back if I can run 24hours prime stable again

2 graphics cards not working in 1606

I think it was supposed to be addressed in this BIOS. I upgraded my M4A89GTD Pro/USB3 to the latest release BIOS 1606, and it does NOT recognize my second graphics card. I have an HD5850 in the primary and 9600 GT in the second slot. Overall I'm pleased with the BIOS and have had no issues, it just doesn't fix the problem I (and others) are having.

I did NOT clear CMOS after loading, will try that when I get some time. Any other suggestions are welcome!

You guys do know that the lower slot is primary on ASUS M4A890 series boards right?

Yes, I know the slot difference. In my case, I have an HD5850 and 9600GT. Here are the various scenarios & how they play out:
    • Just the HD5850: Recognizes it without an issue in primary slot
    • Just the 9600GT: Recognizes it without an issue in the primary slot
    • 9600GT in primary, HD5850 in secondary: Recognizes both cards
    • 9600GT in secondary,HD5850 in primary: Recognizes only the HD5850

Again, I have not tried swapping cards or slots, etc., since upgrading to 1606 but I don't think it will matter since it can't see the 9600GT in the configuration I need.

So, still no fix for this.
I really would like to put a second nVidia card in my M4A89GTD PRO for folding@home.

In the manual if those took time to read it, it says to use lower slot, it also says when using single card to use the PCI adapter in the uper slot for full 16x operation of lower slot.
