It would be weird to see green competing against green. If they really are going to rebrand them, please stick with the color.

Why can't they label something like "build by AMD."

ATi logo is mean to dissapear anyway...

Just got @ best buy or any vbig store int he laptop division, how many of them still have the "AMD" green logo ? ", they almost all have the "Powered by Fusion" logo ^^ No ATi No AMD sticker.

ATi was indeed the brand name but AMD was clear when they bought ATi, the only name that would stay is : Radeon Graphics.

Now if they want to stop protecting the Brand Name ATi it's another problem

    I concur.

I see an ATi sticker every time I look at my gamecube...
and I bet a lot of people know that they did the 360 and the wii too.

how many people have even heard of AMD?

From the current console generation, the only thing that's widely known is the Cell processor in the PS3.

There's no general knowledge of any other part of any of the consoles, since they weren't useful from a marketing perspective.

Ask little Billy who made the GPU for his X360, and he will tell you to stop asking weird stuff and let him play MW2.

You must be joking if you think it isn't true.

Go ask your average Joe--heck, go ask the average console gamer or anyone not heavily into PC gaming, and I bet they wouldn't have a clue who AMD is.

The amount of times I've had to actually explain who and what AMD does to friends of mine is surprisingly high. For example; a whole bunch of my friends were interested in getting a gaming PC for Starcraft II, and I suggested a cheap AMD based rig to keep costs low. They had no clue what AMD was, and asked why there was no Intel inside (my bad for the pun).

It's not really their fault either. If AMD would spend the money on spreading their name out there, people would actually bother to look at them.

AMD has always been quicker to a mature process and crossover point, so by the time intel gets their issues and volume sorted out, AMD won't be very far behind at all.

true, BUT the average 360 or wii buyer wouldn't know and or care about who did the graphics for them.

My mother knew about AMD in the 90s during the K5 era! And that's without me telling about them. I don't think I have a single male friend who don't know about AMD, and most of my female ones know about them as well.

The only people that have such little hardware knowledge that they don't know about AMD are the same people that really don't care, they prefer the sparkling pink laptop with glitter no matter what the hardware is.

stop dating geeks and ask people on the streets.
most know intel, nobody knows amd. you explain it by "making computer processors/chips like intel".

most notebook users know the brands from the stickers on their notebook that they look at unconsciously while watching :banana::banana::banana:

killing the ati brand doesnt make much sense imo. it is very well established as high-end quality graphics with the target audience.

amd on the other hand is established only as far as "i'll get an intel processor because amd is too slow", or it's known as a value processor brand

i have to say everyone ive ever met sees amd as a cheap knock off. had a few guys at work argue with me just a few months ago how an amd ghz is completely different from an intel ghz. ati is seen the same way for the most part. then when you ask people why they think this its always about price. i see why they think that everytime you you look at pcs the amd/ati ones are always cheaper and usally slower than the more expensive intel/nvidia ones.

Oh so someone should tell all those guys who bought all those Opterons and Radeons for the supercomputers in top 500 that they are running "cheap and slow stuff"! They must switch asap ,never mind if they slip a dozen places down the list.
The notion that AMD is cheap and slow was built during the years of intel's monopolistic practices. Since K8 and AMD's massive inroads into server and desktop segments any half informed PC user knows about AMD CPUs and now GPUs(even though intel still used dirty tricks in the market). With Fusion coming early next year AMD will make even stronger inroads into mobile/notebook sector and by the 2012 I suspect there won't be many PC users who wouldn't know about Fusion or AMD.

If you don't know AMD you don't know ATi.
And having a complete high performing platform for notebooks might help the AMD brand a lot. And it wouldn't make sense to have to brands on a single product at the same time. Is it an AMD fusion chip or an ATi fusion chip? Do you honestly think it would be a good move to have both brands on fusion processors?

You should stop dating geeks, and ask people on the streets. Most people don't know intel, ATI, AMD, Nvidia, Cicso or 99% of tech companies.

They know apple, microsoft and google. Other than that, they will look at you quite blankly.

    anyway, red suits AMD

Most people know intel. They're everywhere. Dell markets for intel. Apple markets for intel... HP markets for intel.
relatively few people know of AMD

    almost noone cares.

    in terms of brand recognition
    intel>nVIidia>ATi>AMD

why is this you ask? Everyone calls the CPU an intel, I still have tech illiterate friends asking which pentium to get... noone knows of or gives a damn about AMD. ATi has slightly more name recognition given the fact that they actually marketed themselves.

people that dont know amd have no clue about ati... one thing i dont think ive seen mentioned is that even if not a lot of people know of or used amd, when all the best graphics cards are made by amd i think it might help get name out there & more people give their cpus a chance..

think of people that dont know a whole lot about hardware. they want a gpu, go on review sites & everyone raves about amd gpu's. when they go to look at a processor they may have heard of intel but dont know the difference between intel/amd cpus, i think there would be a good chance they look to amd cpu's first since they had great experience with amd gpu

with ATI name now, it doesnt really benefit amd at all to have best gpu's

Well, to be fair, AMD hasn't advertised and sold its name enough.

More people know ATI due to their stickers being placed on the Gamecube, Wii, Xbox 360 and laptops (there are hundreds of Intel + ATI(AMD) media/high end laptops) compared to AMD. Also, with the ATI sticker being placed on most AMD builds, the ATI brand name is only continuing to become more stronger.

Killing it off now would be a mistake, IMO.
