Does your res have any vortex problems as in continuously sucking air back into the pump and water?

Just curious if that sort of condition might create a higher than normal oxygen level stimulating the reaction.

I've been running straight distilled with PTnuke on the same fill for over a year now and don't see any oxidation on my DD MPC chipsets although I haven't taken apart my supreme yet. Regardless a little ketchup and a toothbrush will take care of that in no time...

I've seen this phenomenon about 2-3 times, the worst in a hk 1366 block. Rubidium gave a really good explanation about the turbulence. But I never thought about how the extra oxygen got in. Perhaps those with this problem can enlighten us. Beepbeep2 had this problem too. And Conundrum showed a picture with mild oxidation in his XT block in his annual cleaning blog post

Figured I'd blow off the dust and take a couple of pictures...

I'm also using distilled water w/ pt nuke. I've been running it for about 4 months but I notice a film of stuff on my reservoir that re-generates in a few days after cleaning. The water doesn't smell and is clear like yours.

It might be hard to see if your flow is too high... i only noticed it after turning my mcp 655 way down with a 140 ek tube res

What about the purity of the copper and how much it's heated up during the milling process? Martins mobo blocks look formed, not cut, so little heat from pin milling?

I had the 'black' stuff cover my XT.

I guessed the reason was the following

1/ I had added a small amount of vinegar to the distilled water
2/ I use a silver cap on my reservoir
3/ The silver cap reacted with the copper and vinegar to coat my XT in black stuff.

This is what I guess happened.

My loop has been redone for about 3 weeks now, no more vinegar, just distilled water and the silver cap on the reservoir.

Will take a look at the XT some time in the future to make sure it is still clean.........

TBH, I doubt silver will react to vinegar in the water. It's pretty inert to vinegar.

AFAIK, this phenomenon is occurring only to distilled water setups so it's related to the water. There are a couple of variables:

1. Distilled water is slightly acidic due to the amount of CO2 dissolved in it. Acidity depends on the manufacturer and how much it has been exposed to air prior bottling and after we've opened it.

For the guys who have this problem, is the distilled water fresh? or has the bottle been opened and exposed to air for a few days?

2. Rads - Were the rads thoroughly flushed prior to usage?

3. Was PTNuke used in the system OR just pure silver? How much PTNuke was used? (4 drops for 1 litre is the normal amount)

Yes and No.

I've got a T line on my CPU loop and it does have some film buildup in the T-line itself, looks like a white foam type film probably flux I would guess. After 22 months there is a fair amount showing up there.

My GPU/Chipset loop however has an MCRes and looks very clear on top and throughout.

Only thing I can figure is the CPU loop radiator probably wasn't flushed out quite as well. It's running my TFC 480 where my GPU loop is running my HWlabs 480GTX. I installed both loops 10/2008 so they have both been through the same amount of time.

Only real maintenance I've done is connect up my air hose from the garage, blow out the dust, and top off the water in each loop once ever few months. When I was running glycol or dyes, it seems like I had to change out my dye as well as my tubing about every 3 months just to keep it fresh.

Distilled + PTnuke + UV tubing is soooo much easier. I do see a few little bits collecting on the pins here and there so I do expect I'll have some buildup in the Supreme, but I've been monitoring flow rate and not much has changed there.

but they come with that extra "somthing" really nice packaging pre-wired for daisychain. tons of fun little things in the boxes with em.

Could be, but I'm using the same tubing in both loops...just that one has my supreme, D5, and Tline is the only one to have the buildup.

The Tline loop is the one that usually prompts a need for topping off though. It's always the first to run low and start sucking a little air in the loop again, so maybe that's part of it too.

Anyhow, I'm not complaining for as long as these have been running straight now.
