***Asus Rampage III Extreme Owners Thread***

I'm going to try to push this board for 3D tonight in a dice session. As per usual, I've had difficulty getting past the ~4GHz QPI wall.

Does anyone have any suggestions? My chip will WPrime 1024 at almost 5.2GHz so I figured it should be able to make it through Vantage around 5.1GHz. But then again, that's going to require a 243 BCLK and I've never taken this thing above ~225 without slow mode enabled.

Without slow mode i have managed to run some benches up to 238BCLK . Low temperatures help a bit .
I haven't tried 3D because it just doesn't worth it . Find a friend with a good 950/960(That can do over 5300 3d) or 980x and bench your VGA cards there .

What's your bench clocks with slow qpi ??? Did you manage to break 255BCLK wall ??

If that kit is PSC based you will not get tRCD 8 stable over 2K. 7-9-8-20 should be doable to 1900 without flailing VTT after that you may have to go for a tRCD of 10 which is not worth it becasue you will lose access time on random reads until you hit a speed of DDR3-2100 or so vs a tRCD of 9 at DDR3-2000. The sense amplifier in PSC and the newer Elpida variants is not as aggressive as what was used in the now de-funkt Hyper. For sub-timings to start with check this image (tighten only when you pass your stability test).

Be sure to enable extreme 0V in BIOS and turn off OCP to DRAM and perhaps VTT.

nah i'm good with it at 1866 CL7 (7-9-7-24-72). it's prooven to be "stupid" fast so i'm not worried about it.

i DID get my first BSOD though, seems my vcore needed atleast 1.456v at this clocking. since i bumped it up to that point it hasn't done it yet and i've been gaming it up for... WAY too long

1. The data retrieval time depends on this mechanism. The comment was made relative to the abilities of PSC and the newer ELpida ICs versus the infamous Hyper.

2&3 answer each other - Enable extreme OV to get access to the OCP settings.

But, "0009" seems not faster than "β9124" & "0901".
About "3D06" overall score, around 300~500pt down from "0901"

Which bios version are you using?

I got the best results with the newest 0802

I believe the last one I tried was 0806? I'll be using the most recent when I do the 3D runs. I was a little dead after work yesterday so I didn't do anything.

Bummer about the 238. I won't have access to anything other than my 920/W3520 until I get back to school and even then that's probably it. I need to find some local overclockers but I seriously doubt there are any nearby.

I've made it to 255 but not higher as I was only using 115 PCI-E. I was on vacation last week and haven't done any runs since mid-July. I'd like to get some in this weekend, though.

Juts got my R3E today. First Asus board in many years and I am far from impressed. Ethernet doesn't work. Takes 2 minutes to POST. Takes 4 minutes to exit BIOS & POST. Tried the 0901 bios and it does the exact same things.

Ouch M8... Definitely needs to be returned. I have had two and neither have had any of those symptoms.

For some reason, R3E runs my i7 920 at 20x multiplier under ubuntu while in windows 7 it runs at 21x. Bios was set at 21x. Anybody knows if there is a fix for ubuntu running 21x?

Can that board break 222 blck? I will be running a cascade as soon as ruffus finishes mine.

Anyways I've already sent the board back, and asked for a replacement. I'll give Asus another try. The R3E is pretty damn feature rich I will admit. I just hope the next one works properly.

i got a 760 i can boot straight to 230

but in subzero any board does higher blk

Seriously, we have all had bad experiences with hardware. I find if I sell it and move on I feel much better than if I harp incessantly on a forum.

Board is not perfect but no more Gigabyte for me and DFI is gone. It honestly suits my needs perfectly. Seems simple to me, Classy for Bloomfield, R3E for Gulftown.
