Running vantage at extreme preset. Will update soon. Tests at 3600/4000/4400 with 900 core. Posting from phone now.

    EDIT:

3dmark vantage extreme preset physx on

    900c/3600m: X8507
    900c/4000m: X8667
    900c/4400m: X8798

    940c/4000m: X9049

Seems like it scales a little, not as much as one might expect though given the enormous boosts. I'm going to run a quick 940c/4000m and see what happens... then I'm done for the night . EDIT: Added result, seems core speed has a bigger effect on the GPU performance for sure in a (GPU-bound?) test here. Good info to know...

    EDIT2: 920c/4200m: X8940

that's pretty amazing... the little 460 comes out and wows everyone. pretty unexpected. Gratz on the card.

Thanks ... dying to get a second working one in for SLI now, especially.

My old GTX 470 at 800 core, 3650 memory, with physX off in the same system only got X9201... so I'm very impressed with these "little" 460 1GB's . In fact, I'm going to go do a quick run physX off at what I'd consider my "24/7" overclock of 920/4200 on the 460 1GB and edit back with the #. EDIT: X8792 (X9201 was 4.6% faster), not bad at all. Get these things back in stock newegg!

Can you post your benches up against the 470 ? like highest overclock, i wanna see how close the benches are

Another thing I find funny is AMD/Intel would snipe any of our Moms on a grocery run if it meant good quarterly results, and you are forever whining about what feser did?

Those are some very nice results. Just Cause 2 doesn't run all that well so to get 25FPS with 8xAA and that crazy high resolution is nothing short of fantastic For comparisons sake here the GTX470 gets 32FPS in Just Cause 2. With the Bokeh filter and GPU Water Simulation that drops to 29FPS. Just a little more..

Its the only review I could find using Just Cause 2. Odd as I could of swore Hardware canuks used it Anyway, just ordered the 460 I'll be reviewing (and probably keeping) this is what should be with me tomorrow

    KFA2 Specs:

    700MHz GPU
    1900MHz vRAM
    Efficient looking cooler, removable fan
    Looks sexy as hell

Nice card, but the fan is noisy per the reviews (same cooler/fan as the "normal" Galaxy cards). Cools well though . Let us know how it does for you !

800c/3650m was the highest I could bench at with my 470, which is what the 3dmark # I posted before was at , but I ran it normally at around 730 for lower thermals/noise levels. With my 460, the 920/4200 is quiet and runs cool enough, that I should be running it as a 24/7 setup. I'll re-run a few of the benches I did with my GTX 470 if desired, on this 460, but the ones back then were on 197.41 drivers so I'm not sure if there's interest in the comparison or not?

I just received my GTX 460 evga non superclocked 768MB. Are these decent clocks? for given voltage?
    vgpu 1.012v gpu = 875mhz, shaders = auto based on gpu, memory = 2100mhz

I have fan set to about 65% when it hits 70C and its still dang quiet! seems to never go above 75C

Yeah I'm prepared for a loud fan. My theory is the housing the fan is in rattles so I have a little foam to use to cure that problem Everybody will know in much detail how the card does. As there isn't any review for the KFA2 Everything will be done from scratch for it.

Seems about right for that voltage. Have you tried the 768MB modded vBIOS to give more GPU voltage? I bet that card would start to fly then.

No I havent tried it...is it still BIOS locked even though afterburner shows allowable voltage up to 1.212v? I didnt think I would for any higher to keep temps / heat / noise low =)

It is a guide that explains how to dismount the heatsink of the new GTX460s?

I took off the HeatSink screws in the back of the card, but it doesn't want to come out

Oh...well I think Im happy with 875mhz for now....this thing screams as it is =) I cant believe how fast / quiet / cool and small this card is! Absolutely amazing. Plays crysis like none other. Tesselation is a beauty in unigine and the nvidia demos are sweet! Cant wait till more games employ this tech.

The TIM is probably just sticking a little. Wiggle it a bit.

LOL, now if nvidia would just fix their driver issues...such as stupid control panel 3d settings not staying / or resetting randomly....so annoying. Also, I get slight hitching in vantage for some reason even on stock clocks. Tried clean driver install using driver sweeper as well.

Stuff like hitching in Vantage makes me think you need to run some maintinence tools such as tuneup utilities, pc doc pro and diskeeper

Hehe yeah . They do look to scale really well, too. My replacement is on the way, shipping today but won't arrive until Wednesday probably due to the weekend.

I saw some pictures of the heatsink having been removed, and it appeared the TIM is really plastered on there. I think your advice is sound.

Yeah, Im pretty sure I dont need to because the hitching happened on my previous 9800GX2 and GTS 250 with drivers newer than 191xx series. With drivers before that there is no hitching at all.
Luckily this does not happen in games, just in vantage.

I have a feeling its either the newly discovered PCIe power management polling mechenism found in nvidias newer drivers that people have been complaining about it switching the card from PCIe 1.1 to 2.0 in 2d and 3d stuff respectively.

Or it has to do with new fan speed polling techniques...or something else at the driver level.

It happens even on a clean install of windows. So its definitely driver related.

Im sure it keeps me from reaching my potential full score in vantage, but either way my P score is still 18k so Im content with that =)

I'll be able to see if that happens to me tomorrow (or should be tomorrow) thats when the GTX460 I ordered should arrive. Is it not possible to just disable that PCIE polling option?

naw welll it requires an SLI hack ... I dont know people thought it was an issue for the longest time, because older driver just ran the PCIe at 2.0 at all times. So people were since then freaking out when gpuz and other utilities said PCIE 2.0 @ x16 and x16 instead of x16 2.0 and x16 2.0.

Was not discovered till someone ran a 3d app alongside gpuz that it switched to x16 2.0 on the fly and then figured that it was no longer an error but a new driver feature to dynamically change PCIe modes depending on 2d or 3d.

I believe this may be tied somehow to the hitching some people have experienced with all of nvidias newer driver series.

    But its just a hunch...
