    here is the ticket for budget minded benchers, not as cold as ln2 but much easier on the wallet.

    not too bad since it can produce dry ice instantly according to the product brief.

    Yeah that was the one I was wondering about. Fugger is the larger unit recommended because it the quantities required?

    Fire extinguishers are a complete rip off though ! Well, in the quantities we need they would be.

    And how is that supposed to work anyway? You can't open a valve on a Co2 tank and have dry ice forming in a pouch . It needs to be LIQUID Co2! THen the frost that is formed upon release to atmospheric pressure has to be compressed.

    CO2 doesn't form a liquid at atmospheric pressures...

    Co2 in the bottom of the tank will be liquid thats why it says it requires a tank with a syphon.

    If you release liquid Co2 from a tank into atmospheric pressures it forms Co2 frost, then it's compressed to form dry ice. It's the pressure change from its liquid phase that changes its state from lliquid to solid.

    Here is a video to show how its done, not the best of quality but you can see well enough;

    I suppose so, but how many tanks are stored at the required pressures for that? Most Co2 tanks are stored in a lot more than 100bar, in which case it's way over the limit for there to be liquified Co2 in the bottom of the tank. YOu would have to release some of the pressure until it was at a specific amount, so that there would be liquid in the bottom at ambient temperatures.

    But anyway we're talking about LN2 here so lets get back on topic .

    Whatever happened with the Elan LN2 Generator??

    Sorry to revive a dead thread........ but did anything ever happen with the Elan system that produced 6 liters/hr?? Did they ever get back to you Charles? 2 years later from the last post...maybe time & technology has come up with a better or cheaper unit??

    I know what you mean... I bought a used synchrocyclotron particle accelerator at the flea market once. My parent came home and said WTF is that, a synchrocyclotron particle accelerator!!! and threw it away.

    WTF is that, some one is throwing away a perfectly good synchrocyclotron particle accelerator!!!

    I just thought it was trivial in amongst an interesting thread.

    There must be a scale up price break. BOC/Air Liquide etc wouldn't sell it below manufacture cost.

    it helps if you have a business...

    I can get a 160L tank dropped off at my office for about $300 and they'll leave it for a week. It has the little tap on top so you can fill your own 1 liter dewar to pour from, or just use double layered foam cups like me
