If you can see the actual video card the ON controller is easy to see it's placed on back of the pcb( that larger chip) near the the cooler screws.

That's not true at all. The 460 is the value leader of the Fermi line in performance per dollar and it also runs WAY more thermally efficient than the 470, which by comparison is about the worst at thermal efficiency, running over 10c hotter than it's ATI counterpart the 5850.

It should be an obvious clue that two 460s beating a 480 at $100 less is quite a value.

Add OCing to the equation and it's a no brainer. The 460 leads the Fermi line in value AND thermal efficiency. Reviewers are commonly hitting 850MHz+ core speed without even raising the paltry 40% fan speed or core voltage.

Yes, the 470's are less thermally efficient, however he did bring up a good point, considering in the real world you now can grab a 470 for $279...

You do the math, thats essentially the same PPD ratio, however with less thermal efficiency (Using the reference cooler) and a higher power draw.

Just because we need a minimum of 70% fan to achieve stock 480 +/- levels while gaming on a 470 at 80c(825-850core), doesn't make it the pos of a card you're making it out to be.

Also, where are the reviews of the OC'ed 470's and 480's and I'm not talking about the ones that obviously skew the results.

For the majority of people, the 460's are going to be a good thing, there is no reason to over hype the hype....

With that being said, I'm even considering ditching my 470 and down grading, I'm starting to get tired of babysitting temps and would like something new to play around with.

They have it in-stock now for $230 with a free just cause 2 coupon, but the warranty is supposed to be iffy in terms of where you send the card to and conflicting info as to the length (1-year vs. 2-year), so I'm going to just hold out for an eVGA 1GB GTX 460 pair myself for SLI.

EDIT: Ended up with 2x Galaxy OC 1GB GTX 460's for $480 - 72 cashback from bing - 2x Just Cause 2 coupons @ $25-30 ea./eBay = 360ish total, shipped. Reference-based cards, good warranty .

Gainward GLH , 71C after 16 minutes of Msi Kombustor, overvolted at 1.075 with fan at 80%, room ambient 27-28C, it's hot in Romania 35-36C.

my palit card is ok i guess i took it easy on it today.
supercharged low air temps no fan at all
930 was np at these temps for repeat runs of 06







shooting for around 950 all dx9 benches

going to have to see what it will do in vantage later.

Bah, TigerDirect changed my order to backorder with no ETA... I ended up canceling and going for in-stock Gigabyte 460 1GB's @ newegg... it costs more but they're in-stock and no worries on fan noise like with the Galaxy (plus 3-year warranty instead of 2, which is always good). I'll let you guys know some performance #'s and what kind of overclock I can get out of 'em once they come... ETA beginning of the week .

Holy cow, you're not kidding... thanks for that link, I'm REALLY glad I switched now even though it's going to cost me more. Between the noisy fan and uncertain ETA on the Galaxy I'm quite pleased I went for the Gigabyte 1GB model now with the dual-fans, which are good per those charts. EDIT: My Gigabyte 1GB 460 pair have already shipped woot!

EDIT2: The newegg pics show the Gigabyte's heatsink doesn't take up the full 2 slots to the millimeter height-wise like many do... which will help thermals in SLI by allowing some airflow, I have a feeling.

Your not fooling anyone. Your just trying to crap on this launch as much as possible. The press is almost universally praising the release of this card. No one needs to defend their purchase of a gtx 460 because the press has already done so. Alot of reputable websites are saying the exact same thing in that SLI performance of the gtx 460 is impressive.

Additionally, not having to buy a displayport capable monitor or buy a 100 dollar active displayport to dvi converter to use 3 monitor gaming(which I personally am not a fan of really). As also mentioned, the 5970 is the longest graphics card ever. There are alot of cases that it does not fit.

I don't think your fooling anyone changing your sig, I am pretty much everyone that have seen your posts knew you had 5830 in xfire in your sig prior to the release of the gtx 460. You sound really really bitter honestly.

Its no doubt that the 5970 is the fastest graphics card that takes up one slot, for certain people that don't have a SLI capable MB, this means alot. But for people that do have boards capable of SLI, gtx 460 in SLI provides much better bang for the buck.

You bloody moron I have two 4830s not 5830s not a thing about my sig has changed As anybody who has actually read my posts will know, I'm out for definitive results which is why I'm buying a 1GB GTX460 as well to go head to head with a 5830. Not once have I said the GTX460 is a bad performer, just the hype has been over hyped and I'm reminding people to calm themselves down and not get their expectations right up.
