tried to flash 0802 bios. EZ falsh tool told that "boot block in file is not valid" after directing to the downloaded file. Re-downloaded the bios file, cleared cmos and ez-flash still gave some message. Anybody wants to help me? thanks.
Problem solved. 0802 fine now. Havn't noticed any difference yet.

Im planing to build a new rig and this is the stuff i have assembled for it, and since this is a RE3 thread and i know some of you have a WC setup i thought i should ask some questions.

My plan is to do a mild OC with the CPU to around 3.8GHz and leave the GFX card on default, yes, i should perhaps aim higher, but this will do for starters.
Is the above stuff enough for my plans or should i add one more rad to the loop? My ambient temps are 21-23c.
I will use a total of 6fans in push/pull on the radiator.
COme with suggestions pleaseand yes, i have also considered only running the GPU and MOBO watercooled and leave the gfx card on air.
I just received my 2nd Rampage III Extreme from Newegg.com The first one I had I had to send back to NewEgg RMA because it would not power up and now this 2nd one is having the same problem. i do not know what is causing it.
I hold a CompTIA A+ Certification as a IT Technician so I now about computers especially how do build and configure PC's , I've been doing it for 15 years. but I have never had this much problem with a motherboard like I'm having with this one of yours. This is exactly what I did
1. Upon receiving the motherboard, I grounded myself out to prevent electrostatic charge damage to the motherboard. I installed the RC Bluetooth card into the RC_BLUETOOTH connector on the motherboard as specified in section 2.7 pg 2-31 of the motherboard manual. Then I Installed it in my case which is the Corsair 800D Obsdian by aligning the I/O Ports with the I/O Shield and secured it with 9 mount screws that came with the case.
2. Then I Installed the CPU according the instructions, the CPU aligned correctly with the alignment keys with the gold triangle in the bottom-left corner of the socket in the LGA 1366 CPU socket, then I installed the heatsink and fan that came with the CPU. The Heat sink/fan already had thermal paste on the contact surface. As stated in the instructions that came with the CPU and section 2.3.2 pg 2-12 of the motherboard manual, i insured that the four fasteners matched the holes on the motherboard, then i pushed down two fasteners at a time in a the correct diagonal sequence to secure the heatsink and fan assembly in place. and then I connected the CPU heat sink/fan fan cable to the connector on the motherboard labeled CPU_FAN.
3. I then inserted the system memory into the 3 red DIMM memory slots A1, A2, and A3 as specified in section 2.4.3 pg 2-24 of the motherboard manual. The memory that I'm using is 6 Gigabytes of Corsair Dominator-GT CMT6GX3M3A1600C7 DDR3. Tri-Channel memory kit
4. I then connected my hard drive which is the Crucial C300 256Gb SSD to the SATA III 6Gb/s SATA Connection which is the first of the 2 red SATA connectors as specified in section 2.9.4 step 2 pg 2-40 of the motherboard manual.
5. After verifying that everything I did in the first 4 steps was correct I proceeded to connect the power connections from the PSU to the motherboard. The PSU I'm using is the PC Power & Cooling Turbo Cool 1KW-SR PSU. Of course I made sure that the PSU power cord was not connected to it and the PSU switch was in the OFF position.. I connected the 24 pin EATXPWR., The two (2) 8-pin EATX12V_1 and EATX12V_2 power supply plugs to the the connectors in the top left-hand corner of the motherboard. I then connected the EZ_PLUG_1 and EZPLUG_2 to the connectors on the motherboard as specified in section 2.9.4 step 14 pg 2-46 of the motherboard manual
6. I then with the Asus Q-Connector install the front panel cable to the Asus Q-Connector RESET SW, POWER SW, HDD_LED PLED+, PLED- and then connected the Asus Q-Connector to the system panel connector on the motherboard as specified section 16 steps 1 thru 3 pg 2-48.
7 I then installed a PCI-e video card in PCI Express x16_1 slot as specified in section 2.5.1 pg 2.25 of the motherboard manual.
My original intention was to power up the board for test purposes to see if all the basic functions work which is what I always do when building a new machine so I can fix any problems before I install everything else and finish the build..
I inspected everything one last time before putting power onto the board to make sure all connections are correct. and then I connected to power cord to the PSU, put the PSU switch to the on position and then pushed to power on switch on the case front panel and then. NOTHING.
The lights go on but the PSU fan does not turn on and the CPU heatsink fan does not turn on. NOTHING. The first board that I got from Newegg at the moment that I put power on the board I saw some SMOKE seeming coming from some on the board, I immediately disconnected power and after that NOTHING, i could not get the board to show any signs of life at all, So I got Newegg. com to RMA it and they sent me a brand new Asus Rampage III Extreme. I just received it today.
This time I decided to make sure the PSU was working correctly so I want I the nearest Fry's Electronics Store and brought a PSU tester to insure that my PSU is working properly and it tested OK, all the power leads tested just fine,
Then after the second board would not power up I decided to implement the troubleshooting procedures I learned while I was in school to get my ComTIA A+ certification. I disassembled one of my older computers and installed the motherboard of the older computer into the Corsair 800D case and hooked it up to an ULTRA 600 watt PSU to see if their was anything wrong with the case power panel and front connector that connected to the Asus Rampage 3 extreme to eliminate them as possible causes of the problem with the Asus Rampage 3 extreme by using a known working component
After connecting the older motherboard up to the case and the ULTRA PSU and pressing the power switch, the older motherboard started up just fine, It started up normally with no problems.
I then connected the Turbo-cool PSU to the older motherboard and put power to it and it powered up just fine as well.
That eliminated the Corsair case and BOTH PSU’s as possible causes of the problem of the Asus Rampage 3 extreme not powering up
So you tell me what the hell is going on with this motherboard the Asus Rampage 3 Extreme. Both boards that I have had will not power up properly, I see lights on but that is all. I have been using Asus motherboard for years but this is making me wonder if I want to recommend Asus motherboard to my friends and clients anymore. I paid $426.00 for this motherboard. Not cheap.
Please contact me as soon possible regarding this matter.

If you're not going to overclock the graphics cards, leave them on air. If you're not going above 3.8 on the CPU, leave that on air as well.
That is, unless you just want the looks that watercooling offers... Then go all out.
I have my CPU and GPU on water... but I run my CPU at 4.2 24/7 and my GPU at 1065/1220.
For pre dry ice testing, I'll run my CPU at 4.7 during benchmarks.
EDIT:
Hook your R3E up to a laptop and use RC Poster. I'm willing to bet your board is hanging on "CPU Initial."
If this is true, I have two questions: First, did you previously use a Gigabyte board with this processor? Second, what batch is your processor?

Coolbreeze, a stupid question, but when you say you mounted the cpu with the golden triangle at the bottom left of the socket,what are you calling the bottom left corner, how are you looking at the board, with the cpu socket at the top of the case?
Definitely this board and a 800D has a problem...
I have the same combo, but working right now, but had some several "curious" experience with them.
My problem was slightly different than yours, i was at least able to fire up up to the boot screen and get stuck at USB & SATA detection. Removed the motherboard from the case and boot up correctly.
Then i discovered something really odd. The grommet for microATX was bowing the motherboard because it touch with one of the screws (the ones that hold the southbridge) in the back. So i removed it and does not get bowed anymore... but still sometimes with the problem.
Until i changed my Enermax Galaxy Evo 1250W with the Antec True Power Quattro 1200w, like a week ago, and i don't have this problem anymore...

But seriously dude, two fried boards in a row. You're doing it wrong.
I can also confirm that I have the Corsair Obsidian 800D and R3E with no problems at all, infact I love this case it's by far the best I've ever had.
The only way I can see someone encoutering a problem with this combination is most likely through user error.
i.e. your M-ATX risers are in place when you'r installing an ATX board, or some other issue like forcing cables behind the motherboard.

Why do you hook up the EZ power connectors ? Best thing for future builds is to mount CPU cooler and rams before mounting it into a case ( this to avoid bending the PCB when putting force on the previous )
I always test my motherboards before going into a case... twice in a row a DOA, seems very unlucky to me. Maybe you got the old one back ? I always mark my RMA's with a little dot. The Q-connector that is flaky ? why not try to boot the board with the buttons ?
Stay on air and don't waste the cash...

Sounds like your going WC so you have some room to play. So I'll give you my two bits worth.
1. IMO the 800D case is terrible at air cooling the board, so full water is a good idea. I had to reverse the cases rear fan just to get some air into this case.
2. Where you putting that rad? I'm using a Feser triple located at the top of the case and there is not enough room for a push/pull arrangement, especially when using a bigger board like the REIII. Heck there is only about 10-15 cm room between the mobo and rad with a single set of fans and a Asus micro ATX board. I plan to put my REIII in the 800d but I've yet to measure to ensure it fits with my current config.
Obviously if you put the rad outside the case room isn't an issue and the push pull would be enough, especially if you added shrouds to the rad config.
I don't know the stats of the rad you plan to use, but the feser 360 is just enough to OC my rig to 4.2 ghz, especially when the room gets to around 26c. Right now room temp. is 21.7c, water temp is 28.6c and highest core temp in 60c. Decent temps but I'd still like to add another external rad to bring down the temps when the room warms up as it usually does on a warm day with no AC (I live in a colder climate though with windows open).
When I changed the CPU from a 920 to a 980x running at 4.2 ghz and 1.38v I'm having to run the 1850 rpm GT's at full speed in order to maintain the above temps. So a second external rad would be nice as I anticipate some more heat when I add the EK mobo block (currently have a NB WB block only).
Hmm, reminds me of my Rampage II Gene install! Same dang thing. After the RMA board arrived and the same thing happend, Asus tech told me to put electrical tape on the metal stand offs and sure enough shorting problem solved. No body could tell me what the heck was shorting but it's run like a champ ever since?
Well happy so far but question other owners may help with?
1) I use speedstep on my o/c however wheen speed step kick in my o/c goes from 4.1 to 2.6 great however my vcore stays solid on my UD5 this went down to. All the power savings are on that i can see in the bios.
