^^What kind RAM are you using?

I've just been asking about ECC RAM on PM.
I can get 12GB of these RAM for a good price:
    Nanya 4GB PC3-8500 DDR3-1066MHz ECC Registered CL7 , Mfr P/N NT4GC72B4NA1NL-BE

    But I don't know if I can use it with 3x2GB of these Crucial DDR3 1066MHz 2GB, CL7, ECC
    (which I already have), on SR-2 ?
Also 3x4GB ECC registered for one CPU, and 3x2GB ECC unbuffered for another CPU. Anybody got any insight ?

Very nice! The board + RAM combination is awesome!

Expecting some nice scores from you when it's up and running!

    SR-2 in da house

I need to get more RAM. Using 2x2GB CRUCIAL DDR3-1066 CL7 @8-8-8-24 1.65v for now. I need to get a new 6GB kit.
Using a Noctua NH-U12P + Megahalem with quiet fans pus/pull fans on both for now. I need to get a new Megahalem too.

Uncore is stuck at x18 . I hope a new BIOS can unlock it.

Nothing is optimized yet, just a first run to get a feeling of this baby, but so far so good

^^ I will do that, but gimme a bit time to optimize this baby.

Just got more RAM. There is no option to disable the ECC in BIOS, but ECC RAM seams to be playing nice along with non-ECC.

    I've just added 3x2GB Crucial DDR3-1066 CL7 ECC to CPU#0, and 3x2GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1600MHz CL7 to CPU#1 and they seams to playing good along @1600MHz 8-8-8-24 1.65v
I tough one could not mix ECC and non-ECC, and couldn't believe when it booted up. Bit I have to test more to see how stable it is.
HyperPI32M can't run more them 16T, so i couldn't run a good and quick test, but at least W7 has recognized all of them and seams to be doing OK for now.

X5650 cheapest out of the hex core bunch the the performance difference when overclocked is merely only a couple hundred mhz and now that you can change the uncore on retail chips. They are probably about the same.

I think I've just had a WR, the biggest board inside the smallest case.

Believe it or not; I squeezed it in a SilverStone Fortress FT01. That's a ATX case, and can't even take a E-TAX.
I had to remove the drive bay and do some serious mods, but got it inside finally.

I made 2 different chambers, separated by a long foam that goes cross the case all the way and isolates them almost totally.
The top chamber is for 2 CPUs only. With a 1x180mm + 1x120mm, both intake + a 1x120 exhaust + Intel's stock cooler (on reduced speed ) that blows right on the CPU#0 PWM-cooler.
The bottom chamber has only one 1x180 intake, blowing right on the HDDs, PSU and GPU. The GPU and open fins acts as exhaust.
I've to see the temp before deciding to keep it, but this seams to be cool and quiet on first impression, and looks promising. I like the compact size and light wight (the case is only 8 Kg).

I have been using provantage lately they have better prices than newegg and amazon. The customer service is good and the shipping is quick.

Have you seen a X56xx with unlocked Uncore on SR-2? In case which BIOS?
I have the option to choose Uncore in BIOS for my A0's on tow of the latest BIOSes I've tried so far, but it is stuck at x18 in W7. I'm wondering if we need a new BIOS.

The A44 BIOS has selectable uncore for A0's and B1's just not B0's. I have no idea why it would be stuck in W7. I believe Fitseries has B1's and has been able to change his uncore, your the first person I have seen with an A0 chip so I couldn't tell you for that.

why run superpi when it's only single-threaded and you have 12? you need to be running some multi-threaded benches like wprime...

It is not working on 44 either.
Now I've tried 44, 45 and 46, all of them has an option for changing the Uncore, but it not working yet. Maybe my A0 is having this issue, but I haven't seen any unlocked X56xx on SR-2 yet. I fear this is an issue for retail chips too.

My good old B1-ES had a X20 Uncore, but these A0's are stuck at x18 and it is easier to deal with it. Both had a unlocked Uncore on GA UD7's latest BIOSes, and I hope SR-2 will get new BIOS that can fix it.

The unlocked uncore is working fine on my retail x5680, A47 BIOS. Runs perfectly at both 16 and 18 Still nothing on B0 x5677 though

B0's are hard locked in the cpu. if you want unlocked uncore you'll need to get b1's

Do you have a shot of CPU-z memory-tab to share (or a link to where you have posted)? I want to see that Unlocked Uncore somewhere else than just in BIOS.

    EDIT:

Oops, I remember A0's were locked to x18 Uncore on GA UD7 too, but B1 ES were unlocked. I haven't tried the B1 ES on SR-2 yet, but A0's are having the same Uncore issue on both MBs.

    Some observations and updates:

I had to put a fan right on the VRM for CPU#0. It gets really hot under Prime load. But it keeps under 65'C now, I think it is still too hot and maybe needs a better fan.

The VDIMM is overshooting. 1.61v in BIOS ends up as 1.65v. The 12GB RAM has been behaving, so far

The bad news. My little Vertex had died. The BIOS can't find it. I guess I've abused it too much by squeezing all the wires inside the HDD-bay. Maybe some connections got bend, but it is not a big deal, I've been planning to get a 64GB critical RealSSD C300 anyways. Back to good old HDD until i get a new SSD. After 2 days SW-installation now I'm back to fresh W7.

I had a little Prime-run, just a little 15min to check the temp and,
    COU#0 was ~4/10'C (Idle/ Prime Load) hotter than CPU#1.
Just a little low-volt @3.8GHz for 15min to check the temp, before, and this made me to change and rotate the cooler.
E-LETT monitors only one CPU-temp at a time so i had to take a 2 shots, one for each CPU-temp. This is not final, just a first try, but so far so good.

    @3.8GHz (200x19) 1.18v
    CPU#0 core-temp ~67'C (don't get exited kids, that's not 4.4GHz, the CPU-z is fooling )

    CPU#1 core-temp ~56'C

So I have changed the CPU-cooler, and rotated the orientation to get more fresh air right into it. Now I have Noctua NH-D14 on CPU#0 and Megahalem on CPU#1, push/pull on both. Coolers has field the hole little ST F10 , but the temp is much better now. The CPU#0 has ~2/4((Idle/ Prime Load) after changing and rotating the cooler. But I have to test more to make sure.
I guess CPU#0 is generally much hotter, both on the Core-temp and VRM.

    EDIT:

Oops, I remember A0's were locked to x18 Uncore on GA UD7 too, but B1 ES were unlocked. I haven't tried the B1 ES on SR-2 yet, but A0's are having the same Uncore issue on both MBs.
Will grab one next time I have the machine running windows, might be a week or two though.
