Midnight moon shot at 24:00, 21. Jun.
The midnight sun is not directly visible this south in Norway, but it doesn't get totally dark.
I had to go to local football arena to make sure there is no other light on the scene. Pretty light to be midnight.

Sam oslo what do i see in your moon picture? Is there kind of a general focus of the area as a whole? Covering the ground from where you are standing to the tree line- then to the sky? I like it, though I can not tell if it is my screen, or my perception that the tress seems slightly blurry. I ask also because my interests are in outdoor, large scale and especially night photos.

It is a general focus of the area as a whole, but you are right, this is not my sharpest shot. I don't like the result either, but liked the midnight-moment.

I like the outdoor too, specially at this time of the year. Here is a replacement for you.

sam what camera are you using?
alot of your pictures seem to appear out of focus so i am wondering where you are actually focusing.
its not that they are soft but when i look at your pictures my eyes make me think they are out of focus.
a higher fstop will allow more of the frame to be in focus but your last 2 shots make my eyes go crazy, i cant tell whats focused and whats not.

also this tree one almost looks like you altered the aspect ratio..... it just looks stretched.

He is using Panasonic TZ10 if I remember correctly. Small sensor, so unless you are really close, everything is in focus.. I think that its not stretched, its just that we are not much used to 16:9 ratio. But not sure.. And for focusing, I think he use that general "focus-all-you-can" setting. G1 had similar setting.

Pretty much same "all-in-focus" as m4/3 is small too. Taken at F4, I would need F10 on FF to get same focus depth.. One of few advantages of having small sensor. Disadvantages are bit prevailing.

I'm still using the little Panasonic TZ10. Both shots are on wide angel and were meant to focus on the area as a whole.
It is my mistake, not camera's, I've been playing with different kind of weird lightings on both shots, but those bright spots (compared to the rest of the scene) can confuse the camera and mess up the result too. I'm still experimenting with untraditional lighting , and need to learn more for sure. These kind of feedbacks helps a a lot too , and now I've learned that I need to lock on a good spot in these kind of shots. I should lock on that dark green tree on the left, but didn't pay enough attention.
I tend to pay more attention on focus when zooming, not otherwise, and need to get better generally. Both shots are taken on auto focus and are on f/3.3, but they are not altered in any way.

Another shot on the same day and same spot.

Tarowah, that shot would be really nice as a HDR shot. Still have the RAW?

looking at the colors i think he did do an HDR. ???? or maybe its just saturation.
you could do some tone mapping, or tone altering and make some cool shots.

Yes I have it in Raw, but I have zero clue how to make an HDR shot other than layering images.

All I did to that image was to add some contrast and sharpen it a little to bring otu the could details, I still dont konw what I am doing with Lightroom yet hehe.

Upload that RAW somewhere and I can try what its possible to get out of that image. Im pretty curious where are boundaries of D5000.

And ofc, I will PM you "how-to" if it will be successfull. If you want ofc.

I would love a guide, I have been wanting to learn but I have had pretty bad results and moved on to to other things. Thank you for the offer and I look forward to it.

I just grabbed a free host, I used winrar to compress the image a bit. Let me know if you have any trouble getting the image.
