The 8-phase 1.6 - quite a big difference for a board revision (i.e 8-phase to 12-phase). Hopefully it wont affect my oc too much, but this bandwidth thing is a little irritating! I'm sure it's just a certain setting I've set incorrectly - i7 is still a little new to me.

Hi Guys, can i check when you power on the board at OC settings , does it take longer than usual to startup? mine at 4.0Ghz , power on , then fan spin , then power off then power on again , then take a good 10 seconds before the bios screen comes on...

I was going through all the post and no one seems to talk about this issue.

rev 1 and I am at 1.376 and on pass 13/20 as we speak and so far maximum temp is 74c

I have another rev 1 board and a UD7 coming this week. The UD7 is for my X5660 since that board has bios fix for the Xeon 6 core chips. I am going to kill it with that board and that chip

First off, excellent thread. Thanks to all contributors. Very helpful for me to compare what voltages and speeds/timings others are getting with this board.

I was going through all the post and no one seems to talk about this issue.
The only time I have seen this behavior is when I try to boot with too much clocks or too little voltage (i.e. unstable) the machine tries to boot, fails, then boots with "safe" settings. If you really screw something up, it will just power off and on over and over until you press the glowing blue button at the back

    -------------------------------
Now for my questions: Just trying to find max Bclk right now, seems to be 215. I'm sure it will go higher if I add voltage, but the voltages I set in bios and what I see in OS are very different... specificaly the Vref

just weird, I even changed the Vref volts to .77 in bios, but they still report like that. I'm guessing it has something to do with the very relaxed timings on the ram??
(*edit - found the problem, set Vref all to normal and this is now fixed *)

215 is probably higher than I'll need, but when I first started clocking this chip my first sign of instability came at very close to 4GHz and that was using only 1.225 V in bios... So I figured I'd take a step back and take it slow and careful, this might be the first chip I've ever had that is actually better than average.

Plus it's my first time clocking on intel, and first experience with gigabyte boards and I'm still struggling with figuring out what all these voltages actually do.

What suggestions do you have to reach higher Bclk, or just be happy with 215 and start on the ram and chip?

*Update* never mind about max Bclk, seems like my chip is pretty much average for late D0 920's - can reach 3.8 easy at less than intel ref voltage, 4.0 with HT on takes a bump to around 1.3, higher than that and my temps started getting into the 80's.

this chip just begs for water, but the board has been a champ, this system seems to be happy at 4.2 with HT off, which is fine with me, since 90% of what I do will not benefit from HT anyways...

here's my setup's happy place, on air at least.

Tried powering up with just 1 stick, then 2, then 3? Worked for me....

Just a little update - got 212bclk stable, now working on 215, but seems likely that QPI/vcore arent helping any more. I'm assuming skews are the next step - any hints anyone?

**image removed for update to 215 **

*edit - with the f6i bios btw.

*edit #2 - managed to get up to 215 bclk with the help of setting skews to 50/50 - I've saved the profile which should hopefully get me to 4.5GHz when this goes under water in a few months, although I imagine it won't be as simple as upping vcore and multi?! Trying 218 bclk now but it's definitely becoming more of a struggle, probably pushing the rams a bit too far considering they're only 1333, but seemed to have more bother with the 6x ram multi. I'll take on board any hints you experienced users have to offer, as I'm new to all this i7 lark!

Yesterday received my x58A ud3r - it is revision 2.0.
Which voltage is sensitive to this motherboard for bclk around 200 mhz with i7 920 c0?
