My board makes a lot of noise under load too, it's definitely not the most reassuring sound out there.

I also have some fan slowdown like ehume has mentioned, my system fan 2 is an 800rpm fan running at 430-440rpm for some reason, this is with the auto fan speed on or off. Plugging in the same fan in the system fan 1 header works at 770rpm.

Now this UD7 is flaky with llc standard, 1.45vcore bios gives me 1.264vcore load. Has to be the board, have switched out PSU and otherhardware. tried almost all bios's. My UD6 has been just awesome, I think Ill rma this and maybe get a SSD instead.

When set to LLC Standard, 1.46125vcore bios gives me 1.340vcore load. Also tried dynamic vcore, I still get droop using it, 1.424vcore idle-1.392vcore load. I am on the latest bios F5, I am wondering if I got a bad board or is this normal for the UD7?
@OC Nub,hey i just tested using LLC1 with 1.37v in bios give me 1.34v idle and 1.31v load.

EDIT-now i tried 1.3937v in bios with level 1 it gives 1.37v idle and 1.34v load.
    with level 2 i get 1.39v idle and 1.408v to 1.42v load

OC Nub which did you use on you UD6?level 1 or 2?

Thanks for testing that radaja. I put in for an RMA on the board, it just kept getting worse. I will try another UD7, hopefully the new one will be good. I havent had any issues with Gigabyte before.

On the UD6 I use level 1, I tried level 2 but I was afraid of the increased vcore under load with LLC2.

yep,im trying level 2 now because i need 1.34v for 4.2Ghz and wasnt liking the 1.39v idle with level 1
so now with level 2 i set 1.3375v in bios and get 1.34v idle and 1.34v to 1.36v load

Well, I think maybe the UD7 is fine and my 870 is flaky. I tried the same oc, 4.3ghz using LLC 2 on my UD6 board and it freezes up at the same time in Linx no matter what vcore. It does pass LinX and run fine using LLC1 on both boards. The vdroop is slightly less on the UD6 but not by much. I dont know if this is good news or bad, the chip cost a lot more than the board.

^^ The memory scores are kinda sad, but the chips are cheap and a lot of fun.

I installed the UD7 again tonight ( PITA because I just rebuilt my loop using the UD6 last night) this time I used the i5 chip and everying seems normal so far, no issues with LLC.

@ radaja, I am able to get stable using the p55a-ud6/i5-660 at 4700mhz. I have been able to get the same chip stable at 4500mhz with the same voltages using the p55a-ud7. But...I cannot even boot into windows at 4600mhz. I have tried lowering the qpi link, raising vcore, vtt and pch voltages, also raised the pci-e freq but nothing seems to help. Any ideas on what to try next?

Edit: ok got into windows at 4600 and running linx, but had to drop qpi link to x28, for 4500 it was set to x48. This seems very low, on the ud6 I believe I used x40 for every oc.

There's a problem guys. For some odd reason, my motherboard is now stuck hanging in the POST screen.

So this is what happened. Earlier today, I put Windows 7 on my USB flash disk to install on my computer. I went to the BIOS to change the boot order to USB HDD, but for some odd reason the motherboard won't recognize the flash drive and boot from it. So I went to the hard drive boot list to change the order so that the USB flash drive is on top of my SSD. Once I restarted the computer, everything booted up fine and Windows 7 proceeded to install. Once the installation was completed, the computer restarted as normal, but now it just hangs after the POST screen. It's at the Serial ATA AHCI BIOS list and it shows the first device on controller bus#00, which is my blu-ray reader. It just hangs right there. It doesn't list the SSD or any other components. I tried to press "delete" to access the BIOS, but it doesn't work. I restarted the computer many times and even removed the flash drive, but the mobo will attempt to load, but it'll eventually get stuck on that screen.

So what do I do right now?

    yesss thanks for feedback

on my p55a ud6 (first, buyed 12/09) when i set 1.64v from bios, i read from everest 1.65v approximately

    on my second p55a ud6 with 1.64v I can read 1.632v and with 1.66v I can read 1.664v

i see that more p55a ud6 show 1.63v with 1.64 from bios i think is normal a bit of variation between mobo

    or not?

Another question, I see you have the bios F8, I put the F9, which is in your opinion better?

1.664 only under idle I didn't test 1.66 under full load because my ram is 1.60v from spec

however 1.64 doesn't droop in full, always 1.632v

now my first p55a ud6 vdroop on vdimm but with 1.64v from bios I can see 1.65/1.64 in full, 1.65 in idle

I'm not sure why no one has answered my questions yet, but here's another one. Did your P55A motherboards came with a jumper? I need to clear the CMOS and I don't see a jumper on the motherboard or in the packaging. What gives?

Also, does anyone here know how to remove the CMOS battery? If I can't get a hold of a jumper, the only other way that I'm aware of to reset the CMOS is to remove the battery and wait 1 minute for it to reset. I have never removed a CMOS battery before and could use some advice before I up my motherboard.

    Thx!
