New i7 930 3001A, last 3 digits I don't remember unfortunately but iirc they were 539. Cooling is Venomous X with 2 Scythe Slipstream 1600 rpm fans in push pull. I think temps are a bit high so I might have to reseat. Also ran out of MX-3 so I am using AS5 atm.

woah those temps are high, and there is no way you need 1.29v for 4GHz

Yeah I figured, I think it was 20x multi screwing me over. In the process of lowering vcore as we speak, 19x211 now.

    Question:
This processor has problems with multi 22X?

Yeah, for high overclocks, you should even odd multipliers, because i7 seems to hate even multipliers. This is true for any i7 chip though, not just the 930.

Anyway, I came across something _VERY_ interesting. Dropping my CPU PLL voltage from it's default 1.8v to 1.3 (huge undervolt) dropped temps on my CPU by a few degrees, and I now need LESS vCore to get my CPU stable at any given speed. Great little i7 trick! 4.2ghz is currently stable, but aiming for lower vCore now (using 1.344 at the moment).

Hmm I am thinking I am doing something wrong with the Venomous X, idle temps 45c max, hit 77c Priming for 30 mins. Are my fans too weak? I am only running 1.25v BIOS 1.26v real core voltage now... 211x19, it seems stable but runs really, really hot. Batch # was 3001A531 btw.

EDIT: Did another reseat of the Venomous, it no longer wiggles and temps dropped a bit. Hit 75c max with 1.256 vcore after 40 mins of priming.

hey guys i wanted to ask i've got a 3002a717 batch from a top seller on ebay, he said he did 4.4ghz wit 1.43 ac with a ven x and 77 load temps. i'm kinda scared he might have sent me the wrong cpu by misstake, i was planning on a extreme rog 3 and i have a monster of an lcs setup... what do you guys think. i was hoping on pushing my boundies of 4.5ghz stable (with an e8400) since ive got a huge lcs ect. but after reading up on the batch, i feel like ive had anoter streak of bad luck... i was just really hoping on a good batch, since i havnt had god luck with my last two :'( and cant afford new cpus all the time
ps. seems like today is just the mother of bad days for me =(

It's the same chip, but renaming it and calling it something new gives it more of a shelf life. The 930 is something of a transitional thing, between yesterday's news, until tomorrow morning. Think of it as The Afternoon Edition!

this is nothing unusual, people used to do it all the time a few years ago, then once C2D came out it seemed like people stopped, i kept hearing that undervolting no longer helped.

I got a 930 today, 3951A723 and on 20x200BCLK I need the same amount of vcore as you, about 1.28v. My 920 only needs 1.25v load. I hope this chip will at least have a better IMC...

After the reseat and some fiddling its Prime stable at 191x21 with 1.25v set in BIOS, about 1.26v load. Priming 211x19 atm, looks solid. Temps are dow to 75c max too

    What motherboard are you using?

I have an Asus P6T and i can't set it lower than 1.8v to test your theory.

Try running 210x19 instead. Also, what is your uncore speed? I've gotten to here now:

Temps are from running a LinX run, unfortunately I blundered and closed it down to play some League of Legends

    Check my sets pls

    4.2GHz - 200x21 PT6X58D H20 -XT block
    Batch #3002A582 / 3/2/2010
    MICROCENTER- Santa Clara, CA 199.00

I am doing some testing trying to get the lowest volts for a 24/7 set @ 4.2GHz. I am testing 3 passes Linx full (MiB) Cores 1 and 2 run 6- 7C higher than the and 2 and 4. During full load they differ only 2- 3C difference. Idle temps mean little from what I have read. I have notices screen shots of people with lower idles but with higher full load load temps.

    Have a look see, thanks!

At that speed you should be able to lower your cpu voltages under 1.3, that should help with temps.

How much voltage do good i7s require at 21x191 = 4011mhz, on average? This can be any i7. Wondering how good my W3530 is considered. Currently seems stable at that speed with 1.264v loaded in CPU-z. Thanks!

Edit:Seems like my CPU is pretty crappy. Needs 1,296v loaded to be stable :s

Ummm last time I tested my 930 at that BClk/Multi combo it was lynx stable at 1.26v...there was some stability at 1.23v but haven't tried much more. The best 930 i've seen at that combo is 1.21v if I remember correctly.

My 930 is occt large data set and high priority stable 4200 with 1.34V... Core temps 69°-75° in occt load, if it helps m8

Playing with wprime 1024M at 4400, not occt stable but nice temps
