Guys I am still here and this is a pending issue for me . I have done a quick read of the posts ( had a tough day). Tomorrow I will be stronger and will be at home studying with some time to try help to make this become real.

Just a question: does someone think 2 of this puppies could fit in a case ( not willing to have something custom made).

psu needed to power ( according to the amount of power jcool reported it sucks)
compatible cpus ( recommended cpus fgor a budget build)
compatible heatsinks

and so on

I found a listing on ebay for 667 mhz 1gb ddr2 ecc reg sticks. I emailed the seller and they will give them to us for .50 off the listing and free shipping. I told him we may need around 120 sticks. So the price would be 18.25 per stick. that's the best i see right now.

AFAIK 18 bucks is not cheap. IIRC sammy builders were facing 20-25 bucks per 2 gigs stick

28 for ea. cpu if we do a large buy of those cheap 1.9 ghz w 2mb of cache Barcas ( Barcelona´s)

cool factor kicks butts of 90 % of most builds I ´ve seen so far ( please exclude our german friend Jcool of the list as he know where the real sh is .. also you have to exclude Mr SR-2 and so other crazy bastagges but this IMHHHO has one of the biggest fun factors around).

Dude 16 cores and we could be paying just a bit over 100 bucks for them and 75 for the board. Yeah, then there is people who want 256mb of cache in those cpu´s, 2 W of wall consumption, to be 1st in WCG and all the other stuff.


Reusing your hardware (when you have been dealing for years with the same sh.. macs, or dells are being made ) into a server grade rig is not a valid equation. yeah, some would also like to oc this cpu´s 150% .. come on

ive got a recert PCC 750w with a 4870 one one, and a PCC 500w with a 8800gtx on another one, and have had no problem with them at all.

thats with 4x2gb of ecc ddr2-667

its exactily 453w measured with a killawatt there is a thered around here somewhere about it.

but thats with a tyan s4895 thunderquad with on board graphics


edit: not sure about the 8347, ie 1.9. but the 8356 2.3 that i have runs about 35kppd in WCG points, 5000 boinc points on the grid. and over 9000 boinc running other DC stuff.

i have just mailed with the guy that sells full server setup with these boards, and he has access to the PSU that fits this board, its a 850w unit, price is still unknown, im waiting on a reply. just wated you to know

i have no idea. and i am not interested, i just got a perc 5i controller, and upgraded my 4 x 1,5 TB to 8 x 1,5 TB drives.. that should do it. for now

is there someone that knows if we can run this board with pc2-3200 ecc reg ram ? because those can be had for as little 10$ per gig. will it hurt PPD ? and is the barcy even able to run with slow ram ?
